MERCER

Amps speak louder than words.

About Me

Pragmatism vs. Worryism

Add to My Profile | More Videos Mercer formed in 1996.
Went through a number of line-up changes, saying hello and good-bye to busloads of bass players, but seems to have found The Right One after all.
Has played numerous gigs in Germany, together with bands such as The Sorts, Do Make Say Think, North of America.
Don't let their pictures and their mp3s deceive you.
They are as loud as a freight train running through your backyard after midnight.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: mercer-intl.com
Band Members: Volker Freitag - guitar, good cop
Oliver Greven - guitar, bad cop
Werner Wieczorek - bass, cowbell
Ingo Marzina - drums, more cowbell
Influences: Volker Freitag tuned his guitar to DADGAD after seeing a Gastr del Sol show in Cologne in 1996 and stuck with that tuning ever since.
Oliver Greven was already a huge fan of Sonic Youth when he joined the band, so he tuned down as well and never went back to standard.
Werner Wieczorek is probably the biggest Beatles fan of his generation.
Ingo Marzina has a heavy metal history that he is desperately trying to conceal. But he also played in a super-loud and super-fast HC band before forming Mercer with Volker.
Wake up any one of them late at night and he will name bands such as Slint, Seam, Hurl, Don Caballero, Bitch Magnet, EE, Shipping News, Codeine, Rex, Pullman, Billy Mahonie, Karate and so forth as possible influences.
However, don't nail them down on it. Today it is the first Leo Kottke album, tomorrow it may be "Queen Live Killers"...
Anyway, you get the picture.
Sounds Like: Taut wire on wood.
Slow traffic on a suspension bridge.
A container terminal at night.

Type of Label: None

Just for the record

That's no "funny little surf intro" to the track "Spoke", it's a nod to The Who's short jingle on "The Who Sell Out", "Hold your group together with Rotosound strings." Have you kids no sense of histo...

For 1000 we try harder

Seeing that our track "Unpopular Mechanics" is by far our most popular track - at close to 1000 hits - I thought that maybe our visitors need a little more exposure to other fine tracks such as "The T...
