Formed in 1989, the Big Bad Bollocks started out as a "fuckknowswhat" band, evolving through trashy-folk/punk, rockabilly ,pop and a heaping portion of traditional Irish songs taken to a demented place. People seemed to like and connect with what it was that we had no idea we where doing. Now, sixteen plus years later, and still without a clue ,The Big Bad Bollocks continue to perform on a not so regular basis, and without as much of that polished sound that afforded the band about eight and a half minutes of fame.
On a warm evening during the summer of 1990, a drunken duo comprised of Johnny Alien and Patio Furniture, took the stage at the late great Knightly's Pub. Many beers into the set, Johnny Alien beckoned the audience for a drummer to take advantage of the tired old kit that sat silent at the back of the stage. Bob The Bastard scrambled to the front and proceeded to trash the drums and form an alliance with the two soused troubadours.
In the summer of 1992, The Bollocks set off to tour Great Britain on what would be called " Tinta World Tour ". Controversy would attach itself to the band the moment they touched down in Manchester. Not unlike Jerry Lee Lewis and his child bride. Or Malcolm Mclaren's Sex Pistol experiment, The British press found a filthy story to tell. Word quickly spread that an American band , led by an Englishman, had the audacity to call themselves Bollocks. Community outrage forced the cancellation of shows. During a segment of the tour, the Bollocks would be joined by the the Master of Fart, Mr. Methane. This did not help to ingratiate the band with the locals. Still the tour went on, and that old adage, "any press is good press"proved once again to be true.
