First off, I hate private profiles! Anyways, I’m really shy but once you get to know me, I won’t shut up. I’m actually MUCH more talkative now than I ever have been. I even won “Most Quiet” in High School lol. I am the nicest person you will ever come across because I just am lol. At home… that’s another story. My family… we act like The Osbournes… if you’ve seen the show, THAT’S US! I love my parents more than anything. I will do anything and everything for them. I don’t think I’m better than anyone but I think I’m very different, which is difficult because I do not fit in with anybody. I’m not your average 20 year old. I think I’ve been thru so much that I’ve grown up too fast… I mean by the time I was 9, I dreaded birthdays because it meant getting older. Obviously I’m different. I tend to have a more pessimist view on things which is definitely not a good trait but it is what it is, that also goes with my controlling issues.
I’m Melissa. My nicknames include: Mela, Missy, Mel, and Meliss. I was born in Mamou, Louisiana but grew up in New Jersey. My favorite color is pink & black. I love gymnastics, dance, ice skating and cheerleading. I never officially took cheerleading but I wish I had. I love it! My family isn’t the average family as I said before… we’re the Osbournes – to a T. My dad is a computer programmer but got laid off so now things are tough and I will most likely be moving this year. I’m staying in the area though… so don’t get too sad – just moving to a smaller house. My mom is a stay-at-home mom. She’s in a wheelchair and can’t walk… thanks to malpractice. She’s been thru so much and still tries her best to remain positive. Having a parent at a wheelchair is hard because my mom first was in the wheelchair when I was nine years old. That’s tough because you’re young and all you can think of is, “Oh my god… my mom isn’t like the other mom’s.” I didn’t want to be seen with her or ever go out with my family. Luckily, I grew out of that but it’s difficult for everyone in that situation and being so young, you’re not going to fully understand that this is not going to change ever and you just have to deal with it. When my mom started using a wheelchair, I felt like I needed to be the parent… until this day I feel that way. It’s not a horrible thing because you’re more responsible but that was age nine and from age nine to now, I feel like I spend SO much of my time focusing on my parents well-being that I spend zero time on myself. My whole brain is “I gotta remember that for my dad, I gotta remember that for my mom.” My head just spins with all of this and sometimes you just need to a break. My break is when I go to work or school. Middle school was a disaster. Kids were horrible to me – throwing my books on the ground, telling me I was stupid ALL the time, I just didn’t want to ever go to school. I knew I wasn’t stupid… but if someone says it enough… it’s going to stick with you. When I got to high school, the school psychologist I met a couple times, she was there to make sure I was doing well, joining clubs, all that stuff. The school PSYCHOLOGIST told me I had no friends. Point blank... "You Have No Friends.” that is exactly why I have compassion… which goes back to the old quote, "Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle." Luckily, she was moved to NOT being a school psychologist after that. BTW, I had to take her to her seat a couple weeks ago at TGIF (my job)… you shoulda saw the look on her face! What an asshole. That is definitely someone I will never be nice to. ANYWAYS, One of the best decisions I think my parents ever did was not enforcing the whole “don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t do drugs, don’t have sex” rule. It allowed me to make choices for myself and do it for me. I don’t drink … I am VERY proud of that. That’s not to say that I would never try but regardless I don’t drink now. I’ve been in situations where people have tried to get me to drink and although I’m shy… if it’s something I stand for, I can promise you I won’t back down. I don’t smoke … I tried it once but never again. I like my lungs. I don’t do drugs once again; I’ve been offered and told that person off. Drugs are definitely never going to happen. I care about my life too much to ever try. I don’t have sex… virgin until marriage If you don’t like it, SUCKS FOR YOU! It’s what I believe in… for myself. If I feel like it's the right time for me BEFORE marriage, then fine... but I want that decision to be MY decision. I don’t dislike anybody for having sex before they’re married; it’s my own personal choice. My parents are 100% behind my decisions. One of my biggest pet peeves (and I have plenty) are for the people that do smoke or do drugs. You can do whatever you want but do you REALLY need to take pictures of you smoking & doing drugs? It’s not cool; you don’t have to show it off. We all know what a cigarette looks like and most drugs, if not all. It’s completely pointless and why would you want a picture of that anyway? It’s sad to see how proud some people are about smoking, drinking and doing drugs. Well they can have a good time in the "future" dealing all of their diseases, cancers, fried brains, and leaving behind loved ones on a bad note with an oxygen tank while you watch you’re kids play and wonder why you can’t be there for them. It’s not the way to go. Today… morals are being broken… personal morals, just to fit in. Don’t brag that you just smoked a whole pack. Don’t brag that you just drank so much you’re near alcohol poisoning. Don’t brag that you just had a whole bag of cocaine and you’re liking the high and DON’T brag that you had unprotected sex. WEAR A CONDOM!!!!! Is it really that hard walk to the store and supply yourself with a damn condom? Is it really too hard for the ladies to carry a condom as well incase the guy doesn’t have one? Well I guess so… because teenage pregnancy is high and if you don’t have a condom, you’re risk for having an STD has just SKYROCKETED! I feel really bad for those people and anyone who have given into drugs or any another harmful substances or unprotected sex. It’s really sad knowing that tons people do drugs or other things just to make a friend. Guess what? If they push you, THEY AREN’T YOUR FRIENDS! Wow… I had a lot to say about that. I’ll shut up about that now. I’m a funny, caring person. As you know, I don’t talk a lot unless I really know you very well but just because I don’t talk doesn’t mean I’m snobby. I AM NOT SNOBBY! If you’re nice to me, I like you. If you’re not nice, most likely, I don’t like you either. I like everybody unless they give me something to dislike them with. I’m straight AND single. If you’re cute, I probably have a crush on you but I’m a really traditional person and I like the guy to make the move. Therefore, I will never tell you I like you so you just better tell me. I’ve never been on a date, kissed, or had a boyfriend so I’m a virgin in all aspects lol. It’s okay though, I’m not rushing. I’m young… I have a long way to go before I find someone. I dress how I want and if you don’t like it, tough! I don’t buy name brands… I buy what I like. I like anyone who are themselves, not acting like anyone for anyone else. I have HUGE respect for those people. Also, Don't tan! It's very annoying because a) you look better in your own natural skin color and b) you're less likely to get skin cancer. Pleaseeeeee feel free to IM me at Skirts7!!!
Hobbies/Interests: I love writing, singing, shopping, movies, theme parks (My favorite is Knobles in Elysburg, PA), haunted houses/hayrides, road trips, starbucks, virgin pina coladas, maple butter blondies, SNOW, night-time, taking pictures, listening to music, broadway, NYC, Being with my family, my dog, CHAPSTICK, dancing, THE SPICE GIRLS, autographs, quotes, etc.
Talents: I’ve written numerous poems/songs/stories. Five of my poems got published in a book and I won two Editor’s Choice Awards from Poetry.com. I am very proud because that’s what I love to do… to write and to be rewarded for something you love is wonderful. I also write movie reviews.
Spice Girls: Everyone always asks me why I like them so much. Considering I just wrote a five page essay on them for college, I think I can tell you why. You can ask me anything about the Spice Girls and 9 times out of 10, I'll know the answer. It might sound silly, but it's true. My entire room is covered in posters of them (I lost count after 500). It's not just the music, it's everything they convey. The message they sent around the world helped so many people. These were five very different girls taking on a male dominated world. They didn't look like anybody else out there and they didn't try to be anyone else. The whole message besides "Girl Power" was to be yourself. It's a good to be different. They were proud to be different. They didn't force "try to look like us", even though most little girls did try, they wanted everyone to be unique. Some people can say "There music sucked!" and for anyone who didn't believe they wrote there own music or like them, they just always said, "Don't listen to it then." They didn't care what people thought. The music was fun and it gave people something to be happy about. I thank god for the spice girls because I was going thru a very tough time at school and I don't know what I'd do without there music, message and positive attutides. I definitely believed it helped me and shaped me into the person I am now - no matter what people say.
Job/Volunteer: Currently I work as a Hostess at TGI Friday’s… come visit! I might be the only one but I actually really like it. I have to give that job credit for getting a good portion of me out of my shyness, compared to how I was in school. I pretty much like everyone there too – which is always good. I’m probably one of the few who goes to college and wrote two of her papers on TGI Friday’s and what they look for in applicants’ lol. I told you… I can write papers on ANYTHING! However, for the summer I’m looking to work at a Day Camp Monday-Friday and then TGI Friday’s on weekends. I’m also looking into working at Camp Quality for a week. Camp Quality is volunteer-based, no money is given. It’s a camp for a week set up for kids with cancer. It’s a goal for mine to work there at least once. I’m not sure if this year it’ll be happening… but eventually. Every Christmas I volunteer for Services for the Underserved in NYC and Beasanta.org. “Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation’s compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain love for one another.” In high school, I was also in the club, Kids for Life, and we held Christmas parties at hospitals for kids who had or were affected by HIV/AIDS. It was one of the most rewarding experiences in my ENTIRE life.
School: Currently I’m going to Brookdale Community College. I took a year and a half off after high school. I truly didn’t believe I would ever return to school. I wanted to, SO bad but my parents kept putting it off. My dream school was University of the Arts for Writing for Film and TV, however, $28,000 is never going to happen so I’m at Brookdale. I started Jan. 2007 and I love it! My major going into Brookdale was Journalism. I changed it however because interviewing wasn’t my thing I’m more into writing. Most of the classes were filled when I picked another class though so here I am with Psychology. I still have a lot of classes I want to try… Photography, TV Analysis, Theatre Appreciation, Education, Creative Writing, etc… practically everything really! lol. I would like to transfer after a couple years… maybe to Rutgers? But I highly doubt that will happen. Actually, I’m paying my way thru college… so going to Rutgers… DEAFINITLY won’t happen. I would like a career as a movie critic or a Broadway star… but I also want to try a hand at Photography. I love taking pictures & I’m good at it. I was interested in psychology, which is why I’m taking it. It’s very difficult though. I like learning about the disorders and such, but right now I’m in a class about the SCIENCE of psychology. For psychology as a career, I want to go into addiction services (drugs and such) and/or help people with eating disorders. I’ve been studying eating disorders since I was young and I always wanted to help people in some way with them, but I doubt I will study in the field of psychology. I actually, at one point, wanted to go into Funeral Services. I still do. It might sound gross but I just have a lot of compassion and I believe would be able to help people deal with the loss… at least I think so. I was going to take it but it involved chemistry, which made me say, “NO WAY!” Anything is possible though. Somebody has to do it!
And that’s me!!! If you read this all, I love you forever! If you still like me after reading this, I love you even more!!! That’s me completely and honestly.
