In the Spring of 2007, DJ Jus Ske (Pharrell) debuted the first Katie Neil track at New York’s premier club, Stereo. Ten days later, COMPLEX MAGAZINE proclaimed her “….an overnight NYC club fav.†Soon after, DJ’s in every hotspot in Manhattan and clubs as far away as Hong Kong, Las Vegas, LA and Atlanta followed. In June, listeners voted Katie the most popular unsigned artist on Clear Channel Online Radio. And in August, she was the featured indie artist on the German Top 40 station, BIG FM not once, but twice! More incredible accomplishments for this multi-talented 18 year-old singer/songwriter from New York City.
Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare Company at age 8. Two more roles at the Kennedy Center followed. By 10 she was co-starring in Annie Get Your Gun on Broadway. Katie wrote and recorded her first pop CD at 13. In 2004 Katie was touring the Northeast with her own rock band.
At age 14 she became the youngest member of SESAC, the by-invitation-only performing rights organization for songwriters. Not long after, Katie was featured on the sold out Target compilation CD, Girls Night Out Pop Radio, with two songs she had written and recorded. With a track co-written with Denise Rich and Jay Levine on Susan Cagle’s upcoming Columbia release, Katie Neil’s prolific songwriting talents belie her chronologic age.
Throughout 2005 and 2006, Katie continued writing, recording, and performing songs derived from her life’s experiences touring with such notable artists as Teddy Geiger, Click Five, Lifehouse and Lil Romeo while continuing to headline at some of New York’s best known rock clubs. The Philadelphia Inquirer proclaimed, "The stage is practically her second home.†The Courier News declared her, "A sensation." Ticket Magazine wrote, "…she seems light years older than her chronological age."
Turning 18 in the fall of 2007 and with 40,000 Myspace friends, Katie returned to the studio with the legendary production team, Full Force. Having produced, written and recorded artists such as Justin Timberlake, Lil Kim, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, Britney Spears and Lisa Lisa, the Full Force team helped Katie combine her pop/rock roots with more urban hip-hop beats and rhythms. The result: A completely distinctive and sophisticated sound rarely defined at such a young musical age. Whether it’s the irresistible sound of “Babyâ€, the contagious beat of “Waiting†or the haunting melody of “Too Lateâ€, it’s no wonder the music critic of the Tribune-Review asked this seemingly rhetorical question, "Haven't heard of Katie Neil?" ……"Well, you will!"
