About Me

ARTIST STATEMENT.
The inspiration is the understanding and purpose of our presence in relation to our surroundings. As a sculptor, I leave a visual mark that influences diverse behavior. My work reflects the complexity of our minds from each sense, thought, feeling and expression. The journey is to show that visual influence transforms us. I acknowledge the influence that materials have on the human psyche. Someone’s sadness can be shown through the cold flat surface of a piece while it can also influence that very emotion. Complexity represented through jagged uncontrolled surfaces can confuse the viewers own eyes leaving them in the same state. For me, metal represents a cold and sterile environment. It is the opposite of a human, it lacks warmth and softness. It can be bold and not speak at the same time. It can give you direction, and movement and this gives purpose and with purpose we have meaning. My work represents intensity and seriousness, two qualities that are provident in my own behavior. My work expresses that thru solid forms we have a clearer direction of where one is heading to. Knowing what path is being taken there will be an answer to what is it that one is looking for. My work shows what it is the hardest to show. That is, the emotions and thoughts that drive us to becoming who we come to be. Work that creates a physical environment that acts like a mirror yet enhancing the reflection.

two quotes from an anthropologist that describes well the meaning of purpose of why I do what I do and a sculptor that captured a good sense what meaning is thru images.
....everyday experience comprehensible by presenting it in terms of acts and objects which have had their practical consequences removed and been reduced (or, if you prefer raised) to the level of sheer appearances, where their meaning can be more powerfully articulated and more exactly percieved.
Clifford Geertz
