The Electric Roots Band’s story begins in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. Alex Levine began studying guitar in 2002. Less than a year later, classmates Dan Iwrey and Adam Janower took interest in Alex’s passion for music. The three guitarists enlisted the help of their friend, Steve Kanter, keyboardist. The four teenagers began songwriting and practicing in basements. At this point, only one piece was missing for the band, a talented drummer to hold down the rhythm. They found this talent in a childhood friend of Adam’s named Eric Busch. Inspired by his father, an experienced blues musician, Eric had been hitting the skins since he was three years old. It seemed as if everything clicked after their first practice in the fall of 2003. The pace of songwriting hastened, and as the debut performance neared, the band decided to call themselves Deadbeat.Since their first concert, the band has come a long way. They continued to compose original music as their influences widened to include an extensive variety of rock, jazz, blues, and funk artists. Playing more local shows and winning numerous battle of the bands competitions earned the young performers recognition. For a variety of reasons, the band made the executive decision to change the name of the band to a more mature and fitting title. Deadbeat became The Electric Roots Band. In their third year, the band’s repertoire has grown mature enough to begin recording a full-length album. Recorded at Song Garden Studios, their self-titled debut album is available now.
