About Me

Taking the name of the enigmatic first skateboarder, Animal Chin, who purportedly put wheels on a 2 x 4 piece of wood, the band Animal Chinz also stands apart with their unique and cutting edge sound. This modern rock band takes diverse influences such as reggae, classical, punk, and grunge and deftly combines them with their own individualistic yet socially conscious and philosophical lyrics. The Real Lesson, their debut CD, is cheekily named after the infamous character Ali G, but also contains passionate and courageous themes by which this young band identifies themselves.
With their very first recordings together in March, 2005, they received radio airplay on the Ralph Valdez program on WDET 101.9 FM. Later in April, Animal Chinz played to a full house at Fifth Avenue Downtown as part of the premiere of the Motor City Music Conference. They were then written up in the Royal Oak Tribune and Filter Entertainment Magazine and described as some of the freshest new sounds Detroit has to offer.
"I approach my music the way Animal Chin approached skateboarding- in the end it is an art form, not a business for sale "the purpose is to groove and learn" explains the young and thoughtful Zach on his and the band's drive and purpose. The songs on the The Real Lesson showcase the passion and energy musically and lyrically, at times heavy and aggressive, other points mellow and insightful. "Toon Inn" is about social problems and how we tend to "toon out" instead of "toon in." "Crawl Across the Sky" is inspired by a Hopi Indian prophecy about lines and totems appearing in the sky and deals with the mysteries of human beings relationships with each other and with the natural world around us.
Animal Chinz has performed all over Metro Detroit and beyond, from the Magic Stick and the Lager house, to George's Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Their debut album has continued to draw listeners from a wide range of social, economic, and racial backgrounds.Animal Chinz are currently peforming a few select dates, working on projects, and continuing to explore their musical, and artistic passions. No date is set yet for the release of their follow up, but rumor has it there will be a release of a few single or an ep in late 2007. Stay Tuned In.Please visit us at www.animalchinz.com for more information about the band, which includes a free download of their live performance from the Motor City Music Conference.
