Influences: Hailing from her hometown of Wichita, Kansas, Southern Komfort followed the yellow brick road all the way up to the Emerald City of the Pacific Northwest. Becoming one of the few African Americans in a suburban neighborhood, SoKo realized she was definitely not in Kansas anymore. Her mother had wanted her and her sister to stay out of trouble removing them from the harsh streets of their hometown in Wichita, but she never realized that trouble would inevitably find SoKo. Dropping out of college, drinking heavily, and abusing other substances SoKo found her life spiralling out of control. LAST BID...Spending close to a year behind bars Southern Komfort struggled to put the pieces of her life back together. She found that her love for hip hop was one of the few things to keep her motivated. Writing poetry and creating beats SoKo realized that in order to pursue her dream of becoming a successful rap artist she needed to focus. Now 3 years sober SoKo continues to write and produce her own music. She has sold hundreds of copies of her first demo cd since 2002 in the streets of Seattle and in the midwest. Usually one of the only female rappers to perform at places such as Contour, Wild Palms and Showbox Southern Komfort embraces the opportunity to share the stage with other strong, talented, and dedicated young women and men...
