About Me

Hello to all! My name is Bruce Johnson. I was born in Starkville Mississippi and spent a part of my life in Indianapolis Indiana where I attended high school. I joined the military (U.S.M.C.) after high school and was given the opportunity to travel and live around the world! First Camp Pendleton, California then Kaneohe bay, Hawaii, Kinshasa, Zaire and finally my last post Paris, France where I remained for 20 yrs.! I decided that the military was not for me so I took my singing in the shower to another level. Whether by fate or coincidence here I am a converted man who enjoys the opportunities that my life offers. I started out singing professionally as a guest with a Zairian band called the Bobongo Stars in Kinshasa during my off duty time. When my tour of duty in Zaire was up I was transferred to Paris, France. I arrived in Paris on the 5th of December and it was the most beautiful place that I had ever seen! On my off duty time I frequented a restaurant called the Hollywood Savoy where there was a jazz house band and singers who would change depending on the night. It was my first Parisian gig after I was discharged from the Marines. I have performed for many celebrities to mention a couple Cary Grant and Nina Simone! Through fate or coincidence I met a French casting director who wanted to send me on some film casting and I did but never once did I dare assumed that I was an actor then. Time passed and before I knew it I had “appeared” in several films with small speaking roles the most famous being Roman Polanski’s “Frantic” where I returned to my old job as a Marine! I believe that life throws things at us that we either see or we don’t see so one day I met a guy who was an actor and was studying at this place in Paris with an acting teacher called Jack Waltzer so he gave me the number and I made the call and off I was! I loved it! Jack said that Stellar Adler’s definition of acting was that acting is living truthfully under imaginary circumstances. That sentence really turned me on. Paris was not a place for Anglophones to excel in showbiz. I made the rounds from Voice over work to backing vocals to touring to television appearances as a guest singer and even after all the years of solo work that I did as a performer and “actor” and still I had only my experience to show for it. A couple of years ago I was the voice of a “Veet” advert which aired around the world and the song which is in the jukebox is called “Free Man”. London has been good, the obstacles are different but the opportunities are there to be had so it’s all up to me/fate! Enjoy. For more on me, audio clips and C.V. go to my personal website! Does anyone enjoy writing about them self?
