About Me

The origins of Spindle Trench go all the way back to around 1970 when a group of local teenage musicians began playing all around Iowa and Missouri. the founding members were: Ben Peterson, Allan Boswell, Jeff McElroy and THom Edwards. Ben later left the band and Doug Lesley and Greg Benson joined. Spindle Trench played primarily rock with some country flavoring. While performig mostly covers of popular music, the band always included some original tunes as well. The band brokeup sometime in 1975 with each of its members going on to play with a variety of other bands across the US and overseas.In 2005, after 30 years apart, Spindle Trench reformed, and recorded three live shows in Iowa over Memorial Day weekend. The best songs from those three shows will be featured on the upcoming live cd, tentatively titled "Hell Done Froze Over". The band is also trying to coordinate recording a studio cd. Stay posted for future gigs and cd offerings.

Influences: a very broad range of influences: Greg has spent most of the last 30 yeras singing primarily gospel and brings a unique gospel feel to many of the tunes. Jeff has been influenced by diverse bands including Grand Funk Railroad, CCR, and Ted Nugent. Doug has been heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix. Allan, who listens to about everything, was uniquely influnced eequally by both the Stones and the Beatles. Thom's influnces range from Roy Buchanan, to Bob Dylan, to SRV, to Duane Allman.
