About Me

Howdy Folkses... My name is Rusty Horn. My parents did that to me. I've heard them all so don't waste your breath. Actually I should thank them for an easy handle to remember. I've been utterly obsessed with music since before I could walk and talk. I'm a lover, not a fighter. My parents took me to see the "sound of music" when I was about 2 and I was hooked... I've been more or less playing music ever since. I was in a band called Hayseed-Dixie for the first record and tour, and I suppose that's the only thing I've ever done that anyone might possibly have heard of. We did bluegrass covers of AC/DC, recorded basically as a joke, and the next thing we knew we were on every morning radio show in America. You gotta love this country. I've lived in Nashville for a long time, so I've gotten to rub elbows and touch the greatness of many now-famous people over the years, but I hate name-droppers so I won't do it here. I've been sober for eleven years now, and am trying to follow Jesus as best I can. I fall off the path regularly, but at least I can usually still see it from where I am these days. I have a couple of main co-writers on the songs I feature here--- Bobby Taylor who wrote "hillbilly shoes", and Brad Stine. That's Brad singing on "Ghost of a chance". We recorded it at Charlie Judge's house. He is an awesome keyboard player--plays on Faith Hill's records, Carrie Underwood's records and lots more. I learned alot about what ProTools can really do working over there. I have a ton of original music I've recorded over the years, and a ton more that still needs to be recorded as soon as I find the time and motivation, and that's the reason I put up this page, to expose my "babies." Most of my songs suck, but there is the rare pearl now and again... I hope you enjoy this walk through my past, and come back often, because I change the songs out frequently...love ya, mean it, Rusty

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: jamwave.com/rustyhorn
Band Members: I don't really have a band right now, per-se. I'm mostly playing bass and drums these days with the thursday night praisers from my church. It is a connect group that meets at one of the member's house. I'm currently just posting old demos of my songs on this page. Players and singers on some of these older tunes include... Charlie Judge--Keys and engineering on newer fish n grits stuff--- David Mead--harmonies on Raggedy Ann ---Tommy Williams--drums/percussion and harmonies --Steve Ebe played drums for us (as the Buzzbees) for a while but we were never lucky enough to capture him on tape-- Randy Perkins (Dignus)--harmonies on "black rag"--- Kurt Carrick--bass, harmonies--- Misty Carrick--harmonies--- ---Ric Emrich--organ on merry christmas--- Scott Neubert--lap steel and dobro--- Mike Radovsky--drums--- Brett Bryant--organ Mike Daly--lap steel, dobro, steel guitar---- That's the lovely Joanna Cotten singing the high harmony on "What would it take", and--- John Wheeler--drums,organ,piano, horribly-out-of-tune fiddle, ice-pick-in-your-forehead-kuntry-guitar on "empty beer can"--engineered some cuts--awesome guru of recording techniques and fearless leader of Hayseed-Dixie. ----Rusty Horn--almost all guitars, lead and harmony vocals, all arrangements, drums/bass on merry christmas, let's blow this joint., Halloween
Influences: I like stuff that's good. Even opera. Even rap. Even friggin' POLKA. I state those first because I must admit to having found very little in those genres that met my standard of "good." I loved the Beatles first, and nobody else has ever pushed them from their perch. I also loved the Monkees, so my taste could be somewhat suspect. I loved the Eagles, the Who, some of Led Zeppelin, some of Yes, some of Alan Holdsworth, some of Frank Zappa, some of AC/DC, and I really enjoy bluegrass. Just about any good bluegrass. I love James Taylor before a certain point--he seems to have lost his writing muse but not his ability to perform. I love sting/the police, ADORE ZZTop, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, hate Yngwie Malmsteen and any and every eddie van halen clone guitarist. Actually used to really love EVH but he has turned out to be a bit of a jerk from what I hear. Love Pat Travers, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore/Deep Purple, Rod Stewart, Billy Joel, Poco, America, Dan Fogelberg, Jim Croce, Elton John, Boston, Kansas, Some Styx, actually bought the Partridge family album and the Osmond brothers album. Not proud of it, but it happened. I can't change who I am. Really love B.J. Thomas, Russ Taff, The Imperials, Michael W. Smith, Point of Grace, Switchfoot, love good gospel quartets like the Gaithers. The curly haired dude who used to do the tenor part with them is amazing. I seriously dig Starfield and Barlow Girl, and that's about all I can think of for now. My dad sang in barbershop quartets when I was a baby and we still do it when we get together as a family. We stink, but it's fun.

Hi Loves

Whuzzup?  I just realized I don't have any blogs on my blog page and that's just plain rude, so here's a bit of text.
