Rob Mitzner- Drums

About Me

Originally from the Washington D.C area, Boston-based drummer Rob Mitzner has performed, recorded and toured internationally with a variety of artists for the past 13 years in the genres of jazz, funk, pop, fusion, rock, calypso, classical and klezmer. Rob holds B.A. degrees in Music and Political Science from Brown University in Providence, RI and has shared the stage with such notables as Jerry Bergonzi, Bruce Gertz, Toni Lynn Washington, Sam Kininger, Greg Abate, Oscar Stagnaro, and many others. His versatility and funky, innovative sound has made him one of the busiest players on the Boston music scene. He has toured the United States, Europe and the Caribbean, performed on the nationally syndicated NPR radio program "Echoes", and played regular residencies at some of New England's best live music venues. Along with his performances with "The Rob Mitzner Trio", a jazz group which includes Steve Fell on guitar and Dmitry Ishenko on bass, Rob also performs regularly with the "Bruce Gertz Trio", "The Three Amoebas", and many other groups. This year, Rob got to play a few shows with saxophone legend Jerry Bergonzi, bassist Bruce Gertz and pianist Gabriel Guerrero, as well as performing with the Sam Kininger Band, singer-songwriter Jess McDonough, the calypso band "Pan Rising", the "Geoffrey Miller Jazz Trio", the blues/rock "Evan Goodrow Band", "The Arthur Medeiros Big Band", and "The Alexei Tsiganov Group", among others. He also played an eight-month stint with the free-jazz/fusion outfit "The Wire", appearing weekly on 88.1WMBR on the program "Newslab” in 2004 and has spent time filling in on Norwegian Cruise lines in the show band..Along with being a private instructor himself, Rob has had the honor of studying with some of the nation’s finest teachers, including 4 years with Boston drum legend Bob Gullotti and 5 years with Washington D.C. instructor Steve Larrance.
