"AcoutiCeol have been tearin' up Boston for the past 7 years now. They're not your typical Irish band. Guitarist/singer-songwriter Shane Dunn grew up listening to every known, and a few unknown relatives singing in pubs, living rooms and street corners scattered throughout Ireland. He's been able to combine everything he's ever heard to create his own unique style of music.
Additionally, AcoustiCeol has deep roots in Chicago blues thanks to bassist Josh Oliver. And while some will always remember his days as the man behind the tasty lead guitar riffs, it is easy to see now why the gods decided there were enough amazing guitarists on the planet, and what we really need is someone to redefine our whole notion of Funk.
And just for fun, why not add the mad fiddler himself Damon Leibert from Novia Scotia, who has shared stages with some of the biggest names in Celtic music. If it weren't for his mesmerizing melodies that demand you to stop whatever you are doing and take notice, it would be a lot easier to appreciate what the other members were doing.
What ties this whole musical kaleidoscope together is dummer, Rob Mitzner. Originally from the Washington D.C. area, Boston-based drummer Rob Mitzner has performed, recorded and toured internationally with a variety of artists for the past 13 years in the genres of jazz, funk, pop, fusion, rock, calypso, classical, klezmer, and now Irish. Rob provides enough sound to make you stand there dumbfounded, looking for a second drummer.
Together they give life to songs that will have you looking back at history with a point of view not always discussed in history books, and forward to a future of hope and wonder. That voice. That fiddle. That drummer guy. That dude on bass. Take your pick. They are all a part of the same beautiful, gritty, angry, loving, funny, thought-provoking, fun and insightful sounds that run through their songs. Not just their originals, but also in the way they interpret the songs of their heroes (classical and contemporary) and their histories. Come to a show prepared to sing along, raise a glass, make new friends and join in a musical experience that reminds us all why we love music in the first place."
