The World's Shyest Band

About Me

The sad fact is, the World's Shyest Band poses no threat to civilized society. We are just two ordinary Mississippi guys in our early 40s, helplessly, hopelessly, happily unhip. Teenage girls call us "mister" and "sir" (typically while rolling their eyes) ... if they speak to us at all. We don't perform live because we're terrified of screwing up. We record our songs on Boss BR-1600 systems that we have never bothered to master. We don't sing about "ho's" or "booties" or "beeyotches" (but we think about them a lot). Some people compare our musical style to The Beatles, but these are generally folks who have never listened to The Beatles. And after more than a year on Myspace, we remain unheralded, undiscovered and generally unnoticed by the outside world, yet still we keep writing and playing and singing and recording. Why, you ask? So do we. (sigh) So do we....

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Quentin Daniels and Rick Hynum
Influences: We bow humbly, reverently at the altar of Lennon and McCartney, whose melodies still fall softly, softly falling upon all the living and the dead. Also, The Police, The Cars, REM, The B-52s, U2 and the other usual 80s suspects, plus (says Rick) Oasis, Fountains of Wayne, Wilco, Lucinda Williams, Kris Kristofferson (as I leap wildly hither and yon 'cross the boundaries of space-time), The Eagles, Elton John, The Steve Miller Band, Son Volt, Gram Parsons, Tom T. Hall, Jimmy Webb (who penned such immortal classics as "Wichita Lineman" and "By the Time I Get to Phoenix"), Jimmy Buffett, Paul Simon and Johnny Cash.

DOG HAIKUS - CATCHING THE SCENT OF TRUE LOVE

Ordinarily, I don't fill this blog page with writings that did not emanate from my own stupendous brain (or Quentin's, which is far more stupendous), but I shall make an exception in this case. I wag ...

THE FAKE ORGASM KEYCHAIN STRIKES AGAIN

Several years ago I received, as a gag gift, a Fake Orgasm Keychain. Push the itty bitty button (and, yes, the button is pink, as it should be), and a recording plays - a woman's voice, feigning ecst...

Quentin's interview with Rick

QUENTIN: Recently, I had the chance to sit down in Oxford, MS in a quaint bistro with Rick Hynum, who is either 1/2 or 1/3 of The Lapse, depending on what designation a drum machine has as a band memb...

Rick's Interview with Quentin

RICK: Here's a story about Quentin Daniels that he doesn't like for me to tell, but I think it's funny. We were, like, 15 years old, not yet good friends, just friendly acquaintances. I'd heard he was...

I Fear the Martians

There seems to be an insatiable demand among our several fans for a taste of our early stuff, back before we became "popular" and "sold out." Forget it. Ain't gonna happen. You may think you want to h...
