Drawing heavily from avant-pop and contemporary classical music, the Boston-based instrumental quartet declares their music "chamber rock for the new millennium." Focusing solely on original compositions, Everything's A Little Glorious (EALG) "strives to push boundaries of beauty and emotion", alternately using spare and simple textures or loud, dense noise. Some of EALG's music incorporates group improvisation, but tightly in service of their compositions; most songs last about three minutes.
Since its members came together in 2005 as graduate students at the New England Conservatory, EALG has worked hardest to produce a cohesive sound. Its instrumentation of alto saxophone, trombone, electric guitar and string bass affords a wide palette of colors, and with four very different musical backgrounds of rock, jazz, folk, and classical music, the musicians of EALG have much material to cover. They instead prefer to "create music that is [their] own."
EALG was recently named an "Honors Ensemble" at New England Conservatory, a select award given on the basis of competitive auditions. Besides an upcoming concert in NEC's Jordan Hall, Everything's A Little Glorious and its members have performed at the Boston Public Library, Ryle's, the Lily Pad, Rutman's Violins, Matt Murphy's Pub, and New York's Summer Stage, Stone, SOB's, Galapagos, and LA venues The Knitting Factory, Tangiers, and Spaceland.
EALG musicians play regularly with the Boston Afrobeat Society, jazz hip-hop group the Saltines, Calfornia-based rock band The Bloody Heads, the Sven Trio, Lucky No. 1 Band, and the Luso-Austro Orchestra. Members of EALG have performed with Jose Luis Martinez (founding member of Los Van Van), legendary balafonist Famoro Dioubate, Roscoe Mitchell (Art Ensemble of Chicago), Ron Miles, Art Lande, George Russell and noted classical ensemble Summit Brass.
