Listen to the Qur'an ..
Holy Quran Net (Arabic)
Qur'an & Hadith
1- What is the Qur'an?
The Qur'an is the principal source of every Muslim's faith and practice. The Qur'an is the word of Allah (God). It is the complete record and exact words of the revelation that came to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) 1400 years ago. It is a book of guidance and a doctrine on a way of life.
2- How was the Qur'an Revealed to us?
The Qur'an was revealed by God through Angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The Angel would dictate this message to the Prophet word for word, and these words were scribed on the prophet's heart. He then passed the message to the people.
3- How does the Qur'an guide us?
The Qur'an deals with all subjects that concern us as human beings - wisdom, doctrine, worship and law - but its basic theme is the relationship between God and His creatures. At the same time the Qur'an provides guidelines for a just society, proper human conduct and equitable economic principles. Allah promises that if one approaches the Qur'an with an open heart, it will be a guidance for him and a sense of spiritual renewal until the Day of Judgment.
4- Why did Allah reveal the Qur'an?
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was the final messenger of Allah, which means that there would not be any more prophets sent down to mankind in the future. Therefore, there had to be a final seal on all of God's laws and to guide humans. The Qur'an is this guidance which exists in its original form. It has been perserved for all generations as a source of guidance.
5- What Impact does the Qur'an have on us?
The Qur'an is unlike any other book. It invites the reader to bring faith by using their ability to think and reason. It challenges the reader to question and ask. It even CHALLENGES the reader to produce a chapter like it, which has yet to be done for even the smallest chapter! The verses of the Qur'an that challenge the reader are as follows:
Say: "If the mankind and the jinns were together to produce the like of this Qur'an, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they helped one another." [Qur'an 17:88]
And if you (Arab pagans, Jews, and Christians) are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down (i.e. the Qur'an) to Our slave (Muhammad Peace be upon him ), then produce a surah (chapter) of the like thereof and call your witnesses (supporters and helpers) besides Allah, if you are truthful. [Qur'an 2:23]
And this Qur'an is not such as could ever be produced by other than Allah (Lord of the heavens and the earth), but it is a confirmation of (the revelation) which was before it [i.e. the Taurat (Torah), and the Injeel (Gospel), etc.], and a full explanation of the Book (i.e. laws and orders, etc, decreed for mankind) - wherein there is no doubt from the the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists).
Or do they say: "He (Muhammad(P)) has forged it?" Say: "Bring then a surah (chapter) like unto it, and call upon whomsoever you can, besides Allah, if you are truthful!" [Qur'an 10:37-38]
Or they say, "He (Prophet Muhammad(P)) forged it (the Qur'an)." Say: "Bring you then ten forged surah (chapters) like unto it, and call whomsoever you can, other than Allah (to your help), if you speak the truth!" [Qur'an 11:13]
Or do they say: "He (Muhammad(P)) has forged it (this Qur'an)?" Nay! They believe not! Let them then produce a recital like unto it (the Qur'an) if they are truthful. [Qur'an 52:33-34]

6- How many verses does the Qur'an have?
The Qur'an has almost 7000 verses and is divided into 114 Surahs (Chapters) of different lengths.
7- How many versions are there of the Qur'an
There is only one version of the Qur'an. Again, the Qur'an challenges the reader to produce a single chapter like it, and many have failed. Every copy of the Qur'an is the same - word for word, letter by letter. All the different Muslim cultures and nationalities use the same version.
8- What language is the Qur'an written in?
Although the Qur'an has been translated into every language, the original language of the Qur'an is in Arabic. That is why most Muslims learn Arabic in order to read the Qur'an in its original text.
9- How was the Qur'an written down, and how do we know the Qur'an has never been altered?
Allah promises to protect the Qur'an from changes so it still remains it its original form. The Qur'an was preserved by oral tradition which is still the case today. Every Hafiz recites the Qur'an the same - word for word. A comparison between different manuscripts from all over the world and the most ancient manuscripts that exist provide further evidence that the Qur'an has never been changed. The Qur'an was passed to us orally and people memorized the words. Trusted scribes were also commanded to write and record these words in the presence of the Prophet (pbuh), and he would check these words.
10- What or Who are the Hafiz?
The Hafiz are people that have memorised the Qur'an from start to finish, word for word. There are millions of Hafiz throughout the world. They recite the whole Qur'an from memory in the month of Ramadan every year, a tradition that dates back to the time of the Prophet.
11- Are there other sources of guidance for Muslims
Apart from the Qur'an, Muslims also refer to the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a secondary source of guidance. Belief in the sunnah, the practice and example of the Prophet, is an integral part of the Islamic faith.
