Dax Savage is a Singer/Songwriter and Performer who admits he's still a baby when it comes to making music.
"I’m not a trained Musician. I only began to write and play 4 years ago. I knew I always had music in me but I guess I was intimidated by the music industry. Then the music industry destroyed itself and I realized the playing field was suddenly level. So I said, “fuck it! You got to start somewhere, why not start here!â€
I was really influenced by 70's and 80's Rock, Punk, New Wave, and Country. So it's no wonder that my sound tends to be a hybrid of these genres. But honestly, I find it hard to exactly describe what type of music I make.
After I released my first album last year, A SAVAGE IN THE YARD ( an experiment to see what I could do by myself with no budget at all) very few people heard it or got it and I received a really bad review, which I loved! I learned so much from the whole experience, like forget about doing a whole album. Focus on recording singles and get a producer to do it right.
Then I met legendary punk producers, Geza X and Paul Roessler of The Dead Kennedys, The Screamers, Josie Cotton, Nina Hagen, and Meredith Brooks. I slipped Geza a demo and he was very interested right away. So we went to work on the two singles I’m currently promoting, Shine Til the Pain is Gone and Cheap Motel.
Recording with Geza X at Satellite Studios in Malibu, California was an epic experience. He really got me and he took it all to a whole new level without losing my original vision. And having that Punk flavor brought into my sound was like finding the oxygen that I had been searching for to breath a new life force into my music. I'm very excited about these tracks and want to get them out into the world in every way I can.â€
What sets Dax Savage apart from other bands is that he is truly following his own path.
"I don't fit into any one category of Band or Musician. I'm not trying to be a Rock Star. I'm not trying to be anything, really. But because I have always lived as a Creative Artist (I’m also a Fashion and Jewelry Designer, an Actor, a Model, and a Circus Performer) I’m already a larger than life character. So being a Musician just gives me yet another creative tool to throw into my bag of tricks.
The most important thing for me is to be authentic in the new Paradigm of Entertainment. I’m not going to bust my ass trying to sell myself as being the Next-Hottest-New-Thing-In-Music along with all the other millions of Musicians out there fighting tooth and nail for that fleeting title. That's just a creative mirage that blocks an artist from doing their best work. I'm going to listen to my instincts and follow my own path. I’m going to shut up, get the hell out of the way, and let my music speak for itself! â€
