What is HAWKE?
HAWKE is the elaborate project that I started in 1992 when I recorded my first single "3 Nudes In A Purple Garden" which was featured on the classic Hardkiss album DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR . HAWKE characterizes the many collaborations and original sound clashes that I have created. In 2004, Hawke presented a third original album entitled LOVE WON ANOTHER .
Described by the Orlando Weekly as “thick with the stoned-out, everything's-cool-man optimism,” Hawke’s 3rd album has been remixed and revitalized for 2007.
I asked some of my favorite underground artists to tackle the remixes and the result is a potpourri of styles and shades. Songs like “Remember Tomorrow” get reworked by California’s Freaky Chakra and Sweden’s Sound Delight. “Can You See the Love?” is pumped up by underground dance legends Rabbit-in-the-Moon. Onionz gives "We Come From Far" a floor-filling house treatment.
I also put the word out though Myspace and found up-and-coming artists in Japan, Argentina and Europe who contributed their own interpretations to the project. The result is totally unclassifiable and jagged. That’s the way I like it.
A cauldron of dance remixes of songs from the album LOVE WON ANOTHER has been released by Eighth Dimension through digital download services and limited CD and 12” vinyl. A second collection of “Chill Remixes” will follow in mid-April.
All the remixes are available on this myspace page.
Over the past decade, I have remixed the likes of Elton John and The Beatles, performed alongside Snoop Dogg and The Buena Vista Social Club and released original recordings in Spain, France, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States. I have travelled the word DJing a hybrid sound of techno funk and global precipitation. My focus, however, has consistently been on creating timeless music.
The Hawke album NAMAQUADISCO was released on Sunburn Recordings in 1998 and HEATSTROKE released on Six Degrees Records in 2002.
Why LOVE WON ANOTHER ?
What choice do we have? I mean where the fuck has hating got us. Nowhere. We are are all so similar yet so different and we must embrace the differences at all costs. Nature has a natural tendency towards love. Else we wouldn't be here. We live to love. And love to live. The other option is death and annihilation and I don't know about you guys but I'm just not down with that. Not even a little bit. You see - Love Won. We human beings thrive. And we've lasted through our inherent love. Sure we're not perfect but we're still here aren't we. So are the polar bears, rhinos and gladiolas. They won too. Love keeps winning every step of the way. Sometimes the other side get a goal or two. But if this was half time, I'd say love is up by 3 goals, even though the other side may have got one early in the game.
Bang. As we strutt through life, as we do our thing, notice it happening all around. In the look in your lover's eye, flesh touching flesh, clouds parading through the sky, wind whistling through the alleyway through your throat into your lungs and back out again so that baby in the stroller can breathe it and live through that breath - LOVE WINS AGAIN!!! .
