About Me

Hello, I'm Clare and I run the fire performance group FirePoise...

This is a little clip of me with my fire fans, shot for the BBC NI Autumn ident.

When I came back from my travels about four years ago, I thought it would be good for Belfast to have some kindof regular fire gathering - somewhere where people who are interested in poi and staff, and other fiery arts, could meet up and have a laugh.

So, I found the only park in the city open after dark, and started organising gatherings.

We're a small, but friendly group... so if you're into fire dancing, juggling, whatever, please come along :) (message me for details)

Finally... A couple of years ago I went on an adventure to the Giant's Causeway (on the North Coast of Northern Ireland) with some friends (Lisa Dunne, Nick Woolsey, Andy Hoenigschmid and Arashi).

David Booth (the guy who filmed the Belfast poi video above), came with us and filmed the fire dancing. Sy Taffel edited it together... and this is the result. Hope you enjoy :)

Music:

My musical taste has been eclectic over the years... ranging from the mistakes of Roxette of my youth, to later mistakes of indie bands.

However, some things will always be great... Nina Simone, Frank Zappa, Miles Davis, Johnny Cash, Aretha Franklin...

But the best guitar player in the world (says me) is my lovely boyfriend Will Hawkins (www.myspace.com/willhawkinspage) who plays fantastic guitar in the Ballycastle-based band The Jahm Band (www.myspace.com/thejahmband). Check them out! They are great.

Movies:

There's not many things better than a Sunday afternoon with a good movie and great company... Current movie favourites: Samsara, I (heart) Huckabees, Black Cat/White Cat, Secretary, Downfall, Delicatessen, Eternal Sunshine, Tao of Steve, Enter the Dragon, Withnail and I, Monty Pythons..., Casablanca, Totally Bill Hicks, Lord of the Rings, 28 Days (and Weeks) Later...

Television:

I don't watch that much TV... That said, I think Unreported World is great, as is Planet Earth... as is Quincy (late at night when you've just come in from work!)

Books:

I wish I had more time to read... But, Tao te Ching, The Gift (Hafiz), Tao of Pooh (Benjamin Hoff), Eleven Minutes & The Alchemist (Paulo Coehlo), Rumi, Songlines (Bruce Chatwin), Platform (Michel Houellebecq), The Sheltering Sky (Paul Bowles), Dracula (Bram Stoker) and Chakra Clearing.
