Anyone who knows urban music will know the name Ronnie Herel. This year sees Ronnie presenting 3 weekly shows for 1Xtra BBC
Alongside the now legendary “Uptown Anthems†Show (Mondays 22.00-00.00), October 2007 sees Ronnie present the all new 1Xtra Chart Show (Saturdays 13.00-16.00), an eclectic mix of everything new in dance and urban music and The Basement (Sundays 13.00-16.00) where Ronnie will have the chance to sift through the record collections of all the big playas in the game as studio guests.Ronnie Herel’s roots in the RnB club scene date back to 1989 with his first promotion The Kat Club at Bar Rhumba London. This soon led to 2 impressive London residencies…Club Yo Yo and Sound London further established Ronnie as one of the UK’s premier RnB DJs. Ronnie soon joined Trevor Nelson at the MTV Lick parties in Ayia Napa, Leeds and on the Radio 1 Stage at Notting Hill Carnival. Simultaneously he was co-founder of Uptown Records in Soho, working in the midst of new music. All this culminated in Ronnie being voted Best Club DJ by the readers of Blues & Soul in 2000.Perhaps even more significantly, he had caught the eye of the BBC who were in the process of putting together an exciting new radio station that was to become 1Xtra BBC. Ronnie was one of their first signings and his show Uptown Anthems is now in its 5th year. It has become a must listen for those in the music industry and has impressed both listening audiences and critics alike. Ronnie truly loves playing his mix of music to a national audience and is one of the most listened to DJs via the Radio 1 and 1Xtra websites. Recently, he has also deputised on the Radio 1 Friday early Breakfast and is first choice to stand in for Trevor Nelson when he’s away.During his time at the BBC Ronnie has had the opportunity to interview some of music’s superstars, including legends Stevie Wonder and Lionel Richie. Most recently he flew to Chicago to interview R Kelly at (His Home) The Chocolate Factory, whilst Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Mary J Blige and UK Talent such as Omar, Craig David and Lemar have all been interviewed for the show over the years.Ronnie also loves to present acts he supports and champions live on stage. Summer 2007 saw him support Beyonce on her UK Tour, whilst 2006 saw him present Jamiroquai and Amp Fiddler for the BBC Electric Proms. Previous to this Ronnie supported The Brand New Heavies on their London tour dates and even supplied the cuts and scratches on one of their records.Alongside his broadcasting commitments, Ronnie is still very much a fixture on the RnB club scene. He is a resident for Love Dough (Newcastle), The Southport Weekender, Kinda Funky (Torquay) and Studio 4 (London). He also finds time to promote his own monthly night ‘The Big Squeeze’ @ Café Suki in London.
Internationally Ronnie plays regularly in Dubai, Ibiza, Ayia Napa, Athens, Mallorca and Thessaloniki. It’s no wonder that Ronnie has been nominated at this years MOBO Awards in the category of Best DJ.For further information and showreels please contact:
