First came a highly sought after white label. The A&R bidding war, heavy radio rotation and critical acclaim that followed couldn't have introduced a debut artist with more aplomb. Last year's Top 40 hit 'Come Into My Room' set the scene for the arrival of Nathan, one of the UK's most promising new male R&B vocalists.
At the tender age of 17 such accolades could have easily gone to an artist's head. However, Nathan has always had his eye on the bigger picture. Now, at the age of 19 he is about to make good on that promise and deliver his highly-anticipated debut album, 'Masterpiece'.
The son of reggae singer Lorna Gee, Nathan was aware from an early age of the dedication required to succeed in the music business. Born in the UK, Nathan and his mother moved to Jamaica when he was just 2 years old so that she could pursue her career. As her profile developed she relocated to America while Nathan remained in Jamaica with his grandmother. At the age of 5 he joined his mother in New York where they settled until Nathan turned 11.
For the past 8 years the young singer has resided in Britain. The culture and music of both Jamaica and America, however, remain firmly embedded in his taste and style.
"I grew up listening to my mum singing and have always been around music, whether it was Jamaica, New York or the UK," states Nathan, who goes on to name Alicia Keys, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson and Usher as the artists who get the most love on his iPod playlist.
In fact it was Usher who, in 2002, Nathan chose to cover for Choice FM's Rapology talent contest. At the age of 15 his rendition of 'U Got It Bad' stole the show, winning over the judges and many of the ladies in the audience. In an effort to further Nathan's career his uncle introduced him to Omar McNaught who took on management duties. Teaming up with producer Syklone Nathan began recording and honing his song-writing skills. The fruit of these early sessions include his breakthrough record 'Come Into My Room'.
Initially signed to V2 records, Nathan made his mark with the Top 40 hit. Shortly after its release he was snapped up by London-based independent label Mona Records, where he has been hard at work fashioning his 'Masterpiece'.
The horn blasts that punctuated the intro of Nathan's new single 'Cold As Ice' heralds his triumphant return. The club banger, Nathan reveals was inspired by a lady who threatened to break both his heart and his bank.
"I was out talking to this girl. she was hot," he recalls. "But speaking to her you could tell she was occupied by other things; like what I could do for her. She was so hot I almost didn't let that affect me. You know, some girls are like that; they really work it. I was intrigued. I knew I could look but I wouldn't touch."
Using her hustler ambition as the inspiration for his new single suggests that Nathan has his head in the right place. With sights set firmly on giving America's latest crop of R&B hopefuls a run for their money Nathan is focused on being the all-round entertainer.
"I'm trying to compete with the likes of Chris Brown and Ne-Yo and they do it all well," he says of his all-singing and dancing contemporaries.
Having performed alongside Alicia Keys, supported Mario and received a master-class in live performance from Joe, Nathan is ready to show how he's put those lessons to use. Preparing to enter the arena with a few moves of his own and a unique melting pot of cultural styles, Nathan is confident that he has that extra edge.
With a wise head on his young shoulders, talent by the truckload and a personality drenched in charisma, Nathan is, without a doubt, UK R ‘n B’s biggest secret weapon. You’d better believe the hype…Nathan has landed.

The supremely talented UK R&B sensation Nathan, whose superb debut single ‘Come Into My Room’ propelled him into the spotlight as one of the shining stars in the urban music fraternity, returns with his eagerly awaited single ‘Do Without My Love’. A beautifully written single lifted from his superb debut album ‘Masterpiece’, ‘Do Without My Love’ is an intimate portrayal of the need for love as stated on the top-line vocal: “even if I had all that money, I can’t do without my love….”.

Penned by Nathan, Wayne Lawes and Rickardo Reid, the single is a fine example of Nathan’s ability to portray deep emotion through both the vulnerability and intimacy of his lyrics and the smoothness and strength of the melody. Here is a young man who has the gift to be able to express everyday feelings through the universal language of music.

The forthcoming remix package for the single will feature a club mix by Rishi Rich and a soulful house dance extravaganza by Agent X.

Nathan recently scooped the prestigious, Best Video Award at this year’s Urban Music Awards for ‘Cold As Ice’ and is set to further establish the London born singer, songwriter as a major force in the urban and mainstream arena.

The video for ‘Do Without My Love’ was directed by Lionel C Martin who has worked with, and directed music videos for, the likes of Boyz II Men, 2 Pac, R Kelly, Toni Braxton and Stevie Wonder. The video, filmed in Los Angeles, perfectly showcases Nathan as the hot young international star that he is, with a slick image and polished performance.
