The show first aired in the summer of 2000 on channel 4. It was the first UK tv reality show. Over the 9 series it has grown in popularity with thousands of potential housemates auditioning every year. Each year the shows producers interview many different people from all over the UK to find certain individuals to bring entertainment to our small screens at home. The first 2 series were set in Bromely by Bow and have since been knocked down. The new house is now situated in Elstree Studious, Bourhamwood, Hertfordshire. The house itself changes every year to accomodate the new style and the new housemates. Each year the producers add different twists and tasks to liven things up and bring shocks to the housemates and the viewing public. Since 2000 untill now, Big Brother has seen 143 housemates enter it's doors, 6 housemates removed for rule breaking, 10 housemates leaving themselves, 1 swap with Africas Big Brother and 1 fake housemate. The show has gone under the microscope for racism and bullying after complaints during celebrity Big Brother in 2006. Since then the show has become very strict over similar matters. Despite those many complaints Big Brother is still very much as popular today as it was when it began. Will the show remain on our screens after 2010 which is when the contract with channel 4 is up for renewal, we will have to wait and see.
