About Me

"Right About Now" Playing on CMT loaded right now. ........**************************************************** *****************When I hear Vertical Horizon I think of Heather Hancock's blue jeep wrangler and I can taste a tall vanilla ice cream cone from the Dairy Dump in Sterling. When I hear George Jones I see my grandpa in a wooden rocker, playing his 1930's Gibson Guitar on a Sunday afternoon, cussing about what's wrong with the world. When I hear "Small Town" by John Mellencamp I can hear squeaky basketball shoes on the gym floor during my high school basketball days. Play just one bar of Amy Grant "Baby Baby" and there I am with my mom-- with wooden spatulas in our hands, lip-synching and dancing in the kitchen. And to this day when I hear the piano lick from "Walking In Memphis" I'm back in the passenger's seat of my first love's white Ford truck. We all have these songs. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about! And the longer I live the better I understand the magnitude of their power to take me to a different place, a different time, or a different mood. It's so powerful. So when my friend Kari told me that she wept as she listened to my song "Right About Now" over and over in her car on on her way from Nashville to Wisconsin to see her sick brother a few years ago, it changed my life. I had written a song that meant something to someone other than me, and since then I've continued to put my heart into words (or at least I've attempted to). So that's who I am as a writer...just sharing little pieces of myself with the world in hopes that just maybe someone will feel something. Enjoy.

I outran Eddie George today.

Simply stated: we all have to do things in life that we just do not want to do. For some it's working a job you're not passionate about just to pay the bills. For others it's dealing with a problem co...

My Dixieland Delight

Sometimes I think that my day-to-day life is worthy of a reality TV show. I'm not kidding. It's not that I, Nicolle, am so remarkable that people would necessarily be compelled to watch because they...

Video killed the radio star.

In 1981 a group of executives went on an exhibition to convince record labels that they should indeed start making music videos to accompany the radio singles of their artists. They had 20 million dol...

The first cut is the sweetest

I'm a big advocate of birthdays, holidays, and, well, any day that facilitates celebration, for that matter. So as I rolled out of bed yesterday and it registered in my mind that the date was Decembe...

Dear Nicolle

Back to School!

How do I say this? I was made for school. My heart rate spikes at the first sight of supplies in brick-and-mortar retail stores. The dozens of dozens of choices of mechanical pencils and pens makes me...
