About Me

Candace's musical influences began while she was in the womb. Her mother Karen (an alto singer herself) would listen to Judy Garland, Liza Manelli, Barbara Streisand, and Bobby Darin, while her father Allan would always have Frank Sinatra or Billy Joel coming out of the finest Pioneer speakers. "Everything in my life reverts back to music and what song was out at the time... I remember being very young, and during those long car rides with my parents I discovered that I would hear a song a couple of times and know it by heart." Early on, Candace had always had an extremely matur e musical se nse. In middle school, she would listen to Freddie Jackson, Mel'sa Morgan, and The Isley Brothers, and described her love for r & b music as an obsession. "I would listen to my headphones throughout the day in school, then I would come home and escape the world again until I fell asleep to 'The Quiet Storm' with Von Harper at night. When I heard Vision Of Love by Mariah Carey that was it for me... It was playing from an old purple radio that had been in a fire and my ears were glued to the broken speaker like a crack pheen... " In the midst of taking jazz, hip-hop, and house style dancing since she was 6, she had studied dance with Ed Zawaki and attended The Broadway Dance Center. Soon after, she starting taking singing lessons, writing songs, and performing in talent shows. Her love of Scrabble naturally transcended into songwriting. "The writing came pretty naturally for me. The dynamics of singing did not. I was used to mimicing people so it took me a while to find out who I was as a vocalist." On a trip to Miami in 2003 she discovered lounge, chill, and laid back house music laced with soulful vocals. With the addition of that music resting in her subconcious, it was a lovely addition to her musical repetoire. Candace has been honing her skills for the past decade, classically training her almost five octave range by studying opera and jazz, and has worked with some of the finest vocal trainers in the NY area. She has taken piano lessons and studied at The Brooklyn Queens Conservatory of Music. Candace is now writing for other artists (established and aspiring) in the dance and pop market, and is elated to be back in the studio writing mainstream pop/r & b for her album. She has managed to weave her love of r & b, pop, soul, chill, and house music, and masterfully craft a bright and ethereal sound that is all her own. "Going outside of my r & b roots was like traveling around the world and now I'm finally back home... home to me will ALWAYS be r & b... it's my livlihood"
