DJ and promoter from Southampton UK Steve’s first experience of the House music started in 1989 going to free parties all over Hampshire. After a while he started to get involved behind the scenes in the organisation of these and other events. It was this involvement with music which saw him rushing out to buy a pair of decks. Not long after, during the summer of 1991 he started DJ’ing downstairs at the Escape Club in Southampton, which is now the Rhino Club – starting his long association with the club.
Over the years he has DJ’ed all over the south coast including guest spots at the Ministry for Soul Heaven, the Cross for Danny Rampling’s Union night, High Tide, Kindergarten Klub and Uncut. He started up the soulful house label Mainline Music with Simon Aston in 2000 and has several releases under his belt. He has since left the label to concentrate upon his DJ’ing and Emotive.
Emotive started up as a DJ partnership between Ashley Wilson and himself, and has since snowballed into a soulful house movement within Southampton with Neil Maclean joining the duo. They are responsible for a number of successful events including summer outdoor parties at the Sobar, rocking the lower floor of the hightide boats and hosting parties for the London promoters Soul Heaven. “Emotive is all about everybody enjoying the music and having a good time, we’re lucky enough to play to the best crowds of people around and their enthusiasm feeds into our enjoymentâ€
