Jalebee Cartel - Angels Deserve to Die (DJ Harsh Remix) OUT NOW!
Harshverdhan Puri (aka DJ Harsh) was born to Indian parents in the winter of 1983 in New Delhi, India. Although him and his family moved to Antwerp, Belgium only weeks later, Harsh went on to finish his middle and high school in India. Harsh started listening to a lot of music in his early teens and was able to develop an international taste thanks to his vacations back in Belgium. After finishing high school and just turning 17, Harsh bought himself a pair of turntables and started abusing his (and his neighbours) ears mixing house and trance tunes day in and day out.
In 2001, Harsh decided to go to the US to pursue a degree in electrical engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While he was there, his taste in music developed further and started to focus more around progressive house and breakbeat. He established himself as a well known DJ and promoter having numerous residencies at various local clubs/bars. This gave him the opportunity to share the decks with the most talented DJ’s in the Midwest including
Nosmo (Grayarea) and
Alex Hall (Marscruiser). Harsh also hosted a weekly show, "Melodic Sessions" on one of Madison’s most popular radio stations, WSUM 91.7 FM for two years, where he featured established and upcoming local DJs. The concept of "Melodic Sessions" went on to become one of the most longest running and successful club nights in Madison.
Inevitably, the next step for Harsh was to dive into production and create an identity for himself on an international level with his own music. And so, the year 2005 saw Harsh spending way too much time in front of his computer producing original music. Most of his productions tend to incorporate forward thinking house, techno, breakbeats and downtempo fused with a unique ethnic and spiritual flavor; Harsh believes he owes this to his cultural experience while studying in India. After a year of producing, a collaboration with
International Sin, "Rise" led to a release on
Mining Vinyl Records in early 2006. This was shortly followed by several new tracks getting signed to various labels worldwide including
Pure Substance,
Dubcoast,
Segment,
Ambersound and
a:LOUD Recordings. His music has already gained support from top DJ’s and producers around the globe including
Moshic,
Nosmo,
Sultan,
DJ Taucher,
Christian Cambas,
Ariel Cybana,
Deviant,
Matt Black,
Adi Dumitra and many many more. Harsh has also recently started producing under the moniker
Sound Gypsy which focuses more on the electro, techno and minimal side of things.
Harsh is currently residing in Antwerp spending more time writing new tracks and working on various production projects. The year 2007 has seen the release of several of Harsh’s original productions along with a few remixes that he has made during the course of the year. With several releases in the pipleline due to come out next year and a plethora of original material in the works, 2008 will be the most prosperous of years for him so far. So stay tuned…at only 23 years of age, Harsh’s journey has just begun.
