About Me

Hailing from the midwest dance scene, DJMaytag brings an eclectic mix of several flavors of dance music to his new home in Savannah, Georgia after 15 years in Madison, Wisconsin.
DJMaytag started producing in earnest at the end of 1994 after being immersed in the budding rave scene of the upper midwest in the early 90's. While he had some local radio play and numerous glowing reviews of his tracks that were available during the heyday of mp3.com, his success in the music scene wasn't realized until he got behind the decks a number of years later (fall 2001) after trying to find a way to be more involved in the music that he was flipping over at the time (and in years past). The theory and composition skills he acquired over the years prior to DJ'ing helped pick up the basics of mixing and the advice from the fathers of the early midwest rave scene helped fill in the gaps to get DJMaytag involved in the scene and behind the decks quicker than anyone could have imagined (including himself!).
Withing months of picking up a couple cheap decks, he was spinning regularly at some of the top clubs in Madison, and a year later was seen in clubs all over the region such as The Quest in Minneapolis , Club Three and CO2 in Milwaukee, and several others in Chicago, Green Bay, and Madison (notably The Cardinal Bar , The Inferno , and Club Majestic ). Also of note, he was asked (with less than a year of total DJ experience) to be a buyer for MC Audio in 2002 as they expanded from solely a small DJ gear shop to add vinyl records to be a one stop DJ store, helping MC Audio become the fastest growing record store in the midwest.
Changes in the local scene in Madison and a need to relocate back to his southern roots brought DJMaytag to Savannah, GA in the fall of 2004. As expected, his focus shifted from the decks to the production studio and other priorities to move forward into the future. A few DJ'ing guest spots opened up on SCAD Radio and electronic night Wednesdays at Club NV, but DJ'ing had taken a very low priority until February 2005, when the call to cover for Carmine (aka DJ Aerochron) for a night at Venus De Milo led to several more backup opportunities there. Being at the right place at the right time (and having the right tunes!) on another fill-in gig led to being asked by the owner of Venus if he was available to be their Saturday night resident DJ, starting in September 2005.
By the fall of 2006, DJMaytag established himself as one of Savannah's favorite DJ's, playing a wide range of tunes from funky house, dirty electro, slamming progressive house, a variety of breaks, hypnotic tribal rhythms, floor shaking trance, & hard hitting techno. 2007 has seen some significant events and happening, with the crossover from vinyl DJ'ing to primarily (but not entirely) digital DJ'ing with CD's and (soon) Rane's Serato Scratch Live! The timing couldn't have been more perfect, with being accepted into several exclusive DJ promo pools, such as Release Records Promo Pool , Baroque Records Group Promo Pool , and several others. The material from these digital sources combined with a nose for spotting the hottest white labels on vinyl makes for Venus De Milo being THE place to be in Savannah on Saturday nights for the freshest and hottest tunes in town!

Sounds Like: Production wise: Like nothing that's currently being produced. Think old school acid house/acid trance meeting today's progressive house/trance. Listen to decide for yourself!

DJ wise: Like several different DJ's all rolled up into one! I try to put the "progressive" into progressive house. Early in the evening tends to be on the smooth/chill progressive house (~128 bpm), while the peak hour gets a bit harder and pumping on the tribal side or some jackin' prog house/trance (130-132ish). Later on tends to be when I might get into some breaks if I'm in the mood, otherwise towards the end of the night I start nudging up the tempo to get into some harder techno and trance beats (134+).
