BIO
Troy, NY, neatly nestled in the Hudson Valley, and the home of Uncle Sam, is where Re-Creation hails from. Located on the east coast of the USA, the city of Troy and its Tolkien-esque scenery surrounding it has not only inspired the people of old, but inspires the band as well.
"Theres just a lot of vibes and atmospheres around here," says drummer Chris Grennon. "You have city, you have suburbs, and you have hillocks and mountain country around it---much, much inspiration....and then you have the fact that Jack Nicholson said its the armpit of the country."
Propelled by guitarist Jim Abbott since 1996, and sifting through two bass players and a drummer before the final line-up, this band with complex and unrelenting material has come into being. Now, with Attica's ex lead vocalist behind the drums, and having gotten Mike, who also played bass for the Judas Priest tribute, British Steel, the band is set. For a three-piece band, Re-Creation pushes the limits of extreme sonic density, filling in where all the empty gaps could have been. Their music, whether hostile or feral, whether melodic or eloquent, or whether its dreamy or bluesy, demands to be hearkened. No one member is the leader or in the spotlight in this band; they are a bond, a chemistry weaved into one. With Jims influences ranging from Genesis, King Crimson, and the underground seventies, as well as metal masters Celtic Frost and Slayer, and with Mikes being Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest, all driven by Chris Forbidden, Overkill, and DBC surges, dabbed with Crimson-like off-beats, the band has re-created a chemistry all their own.
In 2003, Re-Creation built their own studio and recorded their own CD, Take One, with ex-bass player Justin O'Connor. The results were fair, but nothing that great on a production level. So, in April and May of 2004, with new bass player Mike, Re-Creation went into Max Trax in Albany and recorded their first manufactured CD, engineered by Brett Portzer. Produced by Re-Creation and Brett, this CD is the one they've been waiting for, and the results are amazing, to say the least.
Re-Creation back up their live invasion with shows that has dominated a very skeptical, wary-eyed local audience. Are Re-Creation old school? New school? Are they death metal? Dark metal? Progressive metal? Optimistic? Answer is: all of the above. One thing's for sure, the skepical, wary-eyed audience gets a pit going for them, and if they don't, they can only gaze at Re-Creation in awe.
NOTE: Keep an eye out for Re-Creation's 2nd CD, sometime in 2007. The band is highly considering recording at Hollow Studios. The new songs are quite an evolution over the 1st self-titled CD. Hear for yourself this summer.
