About Me

MyGen Profile Generator

Based around the songwriting and recording team of Jon Price and Karen Bradford, Maya29 regularly performs live as a 4 piece band, with the addition of drummer Mark Mather and guitarist Nicholas Paul. This line up of the band has been together for 3 years, and Maya29 has gigged extensively in Scotland & England.

At the end of 2005 we completed our most recent recording, thisisnotforyou, which features three tracks:

House of Leaves (7:25)
Tonali (4:28)
The Journey of Gods (5:08)

We all hail from far flung regions of the UK, and Edinburgh has become our adopted home. We're always keen to organise gig swaps with other bands, so if this is something you also do, give us a shout and a stage and we will do the same for you.

A track from thisisnotforyou appears on the coverdisc of the March/April 2006 issue of Zero Tolerance magazine, which also features a review:

Maya29 - thisisnotforyou
(demo)

Maya29 are a two-piece act whose three track demo is a remarkable slice of assured prog metal. Taking in elements of Tool, they manage nevertheless to craft their own sound thanks primarily to Karen Bradford's vocals.

The songs featured here are as impressive as the erotic novel from which they've swiped their name, and if it wasn't for the fact that it's the lowest common denominator that sells in this country, I'd predict big things for them.

Influences:

There are so many inspiring and creative people who have influenced us individually and collectively. I'm not taking full responsibility for this list, so I'll post one when Jon, Mark and Nick have the opportunity to contribute.
That seems reasonable.

If you have read this far, thank you! This banner is not related to us in any way, however, the project is an exciting one and linked to a band which has walked boldly and beautifully into our lives recently. Follow the trail.........
Sounds Like:

We try our best to sound like Maya29. People do sometimes compare us to other bands and that's OK with us, because that's what tends to happen.
We do like to acknowledge our influences though, so if a bit of one of our songs reminds you of something else - chances are it's supposed to...

Who do you think we sound like?

Definitely a prog vibe going on here and the Egyptian/Eastern vibes in your first track are a good addition as they add mysticism to the proceedings. The vocals aren't strained either, and they fit well, which is good. The production job is nice.I really like the meandering vocals at the beginning of the second song too (Tonali) - just adds a mystic vibe to it, it's quite hypnotic.I like the guitars in this too, as their chimy effect is interesting to listen to.This is possibly your best song in my books just because it's mesmerising and keeps you listening to see which new direction the music takes. The Journey of Gods has a different vibe to the other songs, not being quite so proggy, maybe even a little more poppy in places than your other songs.Overall, it's a nice sounding EP; Well done!
