Franco Harris

13th Selection In The 1972 NFL Draft

About Me

My name is Franco Harris. I am the Professional Football Hall of Fame Runningback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks. I attended Penn State University and played for the Nittany Lions as a Runningback. I was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round, thirteenth overall. I played with the Steelers for twelve years, before ending my career with the Seattle Seahawks. I was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990. In 1972, I was named Rookie of the Year by both The Sporting News and United Press International. I was selected for 9 consecutive Pro Bowls from 1972 through 1980, and was All-Pro in 1977. I won four Superbowls, in the 1974, 1975, 1978, and 1979 seasons. I was the Most Valuable Player of the Superbowl in 1975. In my 13 professional seasons, I ran for 12,120 yards on 2,949 carries, a 4.1 yards per carry average, and scored 91 rushing touchdowns. I caught 307 passes for 2,287 yards, a 7.4 average, and caught 9 touchdowns. I was a main part of one of the greatest plays in NFL history, the Immaculate Reception. During a playoff game in the 1972 season, we were behind 7-6 with 22 seconds left and Terry Bradshaw threw a pass that was deflect by Raiders defensive back Jack Tatum. I caught the pass inches above the ground and ran it in for the win.
