The Up Collars

we're better than you

About Me

SHIRTS NOW AVAILABLE!!!
well in short we are the greatest thing that ever happened to this planet.. We're a band made up of people of quote, "people who are not meant to be in bands" We're comprised of kids who just never seem to give up! Founded by Nick and Kenny in 2004 the upcollars played alot of early shows by just playin what we could play, lots of power chords and lots of distortion after awhile Chanson joined on bass, but was more of a saxophone player. we changed sounds here and there, but we kind of liked the grunge appearance. not the quiet verse and loud chorus type grunge, the heavy long. lots of thrashing and lots of other stuff. that didnt seem to fit though seeing how a fair portion of our songs were actually ska....well we kept playing then Jed came in and we had a solid kind of hard-rock sound, with ska and the grindcore breakdowns....along with dance and hip-hop breakdowns too..... After some time around 2007 Jed left and then Kenny didn't wanna play either.....So that left Nick and Chanson, for some time our small group of fans considered us broken up and non-existent. Then Tyler contacted Nick and jamming started and the whole rebuilding process started over! Tyler is from another kind of grunge hard-rock band called Nine Month Media Blackout and his drummer, more commonly known as Chin, decided to help out on drums. creating once more a solid line-up.......We're a band that tries to take the positives from each genre and combine them into one fusion genre. Trying to have one sound sounds well..generic. We play what we like to play and have fun doing it, which is all that really matters with us. We try and take the bouncy time changes and upstrokes of ska, with smooth dancy bass lines, jazzy saxophone, big guitar solos, heavy breakdowns, strong song structure, and big choruses and try and jam them into what is now known as the upcollars!!!!!!
PAST MEMBERS include: Chase, he played rhythm guitar for awhile, but declared he would do only one more show with us after his first show with us at a house party. the band is cool with him, and support his new band "shakedown syndicate." chase also is remebered for helpin the band out at their first show, when Nick and Kenny didnt know what they were doin he grabbed the bass helped the upcollars rock some drop D beatles.
Emma, she played bass before Chanson at our second show, in front of the school, some of you might remeber that show, the mic didnt work for "fishy" and you all got to enjoy that catchy riff played a million times. miraculously the mic happened to turn on for emma and she sung her one and only song with the band that show. we didnt really ever fire her and she never really quit, some how chanson took her place along the line:)

Influences: honestly there's not alot of stuff out there that we like to listen too. That's kinda why we're here. To make the music that we like. Bands that we do like are Nirvana and Kurt Cobain, Rammstein is pretty cool, Queens of the Stone Age, we like to play jazz, Nick really digs the Beatles and Chanson digs weird al, and maybe a few other songs by a few other bands, but that's about it. Cobain once said, "trying to be like someone else is a waste of the person you are." That is applicable to us because we don't try and be like anyone, but ourselves. We don't dig covers and never play them (sometimes for soundchecks). We don't limit ourselves to one sound because that's how generic music comes out. We play what we want to play and listen to what we want to listen too. If any part of us has been influenced its not our music, but our live set. Our sets are Kind of like Mudhoney and Nirvana sets, really in the moment. We have rocked out so hard we break strings, go out of tune (and don't re-tune), plugs have come out, and there's been alot crazy things that have happened. We just like having fun, and trying to be different. Whether it's skanking or moshing. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to have heavy and hard set, but a really light and fun set at the same time. we're the upcollars and we're the best! and if you don't think so you're wrong!
Sounds Like: well to understand the up collars without actually seeing them you must first remove your lip peircing, razor, and bipolar depression from yourself and put a smile on yourface, keep the depression nearby though because you'll need it in order to feel the sheer angst we'll throw at you. you then will be subjected to skacore, dancecore, grungecore, funcore, angstcore, diecore, hardcore, and a whole lot more during this experience. you will feel your body begin to move in certain ways, such as you will feel a sudden urge to either start waltzing with the closest person to you, or you will want to skank with them, or you'll feel the urge to stage dive, before you know it there a so many stage divers that the crowd can't handle many more, or you will begin moshing and punching who ever is next to you, no you will not move to the edge of the pit and watch the select few wail on each other (jeebis) you yourself along with several others with create a vat of extreme anger followed by a really long drink from the fountain. during this time of extreme moshing you must remeber to watch your head several band members at this time have been known to throw their instruments out at the crowd or poo face larry the head will be thrown at you and the asbestids from inside will begin to fill the room with anthrax. not to worry though, no one has ever died....yet. as the time drags on we will give you a break to regain much of your energy, this song is called very virgin (its about a girl) at this time you can either make out (opposite sex only) or you can raise your lighter and/or cell phone and create a surreal atmosphere that you will remeber the rest of your life, as the song prosgresses at the end you will feel a really emotional guitar solo and sax solo thrown out by nick and chanson, if all goes to plan you will feel the deepest emotions inside yourself come to life and you will realize you finally have found what you've been looking for. If all doesn't go to plan its because chanson, once again forgot what Key his sax is in, and you will be subject to a noodled saxophone and/ or clarinet solo that may or may not have the same effect. before you know it though, the song is over and you'll do anything to get it back, such a life changing song cannot surely be over in 6 minutes, all the sudden the angst begins to rise you want to feel happy again, but you begin to feel mad. at this time we'll usually begin playing Fishy, you begin clapping to such a catchy tune that'll forever more be stuck in your head. then kenny will reach inside of himself and a drum solo will emerge that would make John Bonham cry. this solo builds and builds then you begin jumping up and down as you feel the velocity of the song you want more and more and then......everything crashes, feedback, speed picking, tapping solos, and a piece of an amp just hit you. The beat now slows down you wonder to yourself "what is going on" and then you feel it, the guitars drop into drop D you feel that depression return from and all your emotions are running and you can't stop them even though they're not running very fast...and then the open d chords come like being hit with bullets followed by very high pitched feedback that wake all the sleeping feelings within you and then everything collapses into a sheer furiousity that you could never imagine, the moshing returns you and everyone else ripping eveything apart you can hear the 6 stringed riffs of destruction slowly and quickly self destructing on themselves and catchy harmonies and screaming makes you say to yourself "my ears hurt" and then before you know it its over the upcollars are finnished with you and you'll do anything to have that happen again.....
