BabyBlu was introduced and inspired to the art of Djing by her brother ‘R Notorious J’ (DJ RedJacket, DJ and producer on the Jungle/Drum & Bass scene) and by listening to U.S. mix tapes by the likes of Tony Touch, DJ Clue and Mastermind. In July 2000, BabyBlu moved to New York and began tearing up dance floors in both prestigious clubs and underground basement parties in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens . DJ BabyBlu also released a mix tape with friend and Head of Promotions for Source Magazine, Kenyetta (DJ Cinnamix, now Hot97 DJ in Chicago) which received a warm welcoming from the NY hip-hop scene. BabyBlu Djed across America including Boston, Chicago, Philly and Florida, with her aunt and cousin, Rochelle (Lady Majesty) and Shaneka, better known as the Prestige Ladies, New York 's number one female reggae sound.
DJ BabyBlu also joined Storm troopers (Promotions) and assisted them in making Limelight a weekend hotspot for restless ravers in Manhattan. DJ BabyBlu joined the Def Jam street team, which bulked up her vinyl collection and taught her valuable NY street knowledge of the hip-hop game. In 2002 DJ BabyBlu was back in UK; she began working with various promoters and established entities in the London hip-hop and RnB scene such as Fresh n Funky, Confunktion, Ghetto Fabulous Crew, and the list goes on.
She also worked at Deal Real Records, Carnaby Street, London three days a week which included playing at their frequent showcases and in-stores attended by many U.S artists and DJ’s (The likes of Pharoah Monch, Mos Def, DJ Premier, Kanye West, Dead Prez, Samantha Ronson, Nicole Wray, Executioners, Cassidy, Canibus, Method Man & Redman, DJ Whoo Kid, Akon, Talib Kweli, John Legend, Ghostface Killah, Slum Village, Eric Sermon, Dame Dash, GZA, as well as a huge array of unsigned and signed British artists (The likes of Klashnekoff, Black Twang, Estelle, Skinnyman, Amy Winehouse, Terri Walker, Omar etc.) DJ BabyBlu worked for Don Diva Magazine UK as a contributor, writing for the Music Reviews section and Event Reviews section.
After a successful performance in Deal Real with Mos Def, BabyBlu impressed him so much that he personally requested her services to support him on an undoubtedly spectacular set at The ‘MasterCard’ MOBO Awards. DJ BabyBlu is taking charge and taking over. So watch this space. The saga continues!!
