'The Public Record Label'

About Me

Laura Warwick is a singer/songwriter with a difference. Sick of recording demos in the hope of getting picked up by a label, she came up with a new idea to give her fans the chance to take their support to the next level. 'I wanted to record and release an album, so I started looking at how other people in my position were doing it. Many were openly asking for 'donations', in return for a mention in the credits. It got me thinking - Labels invest in artists to sell the music to fans. Unsigned artists are asking for donations directly from the fans. Why not take it to the next level and have fans invest in the artist and have them be the label?' Laura is recording and releasing her debut album, and selling shares in the project - like a public record label. Investors take a share in the profits and have exclusive input into the entire project. An ambitious (and some might say impossible) idea, but she says it's no more difficult than trying to break into the music industry in a more conventional way.'When I started trying to get 'my break', I honestly thought it was as easy as sending off a bunch of demos and waiting for the phonecalls to come rolling in. Needless to say, it didn't quite work out that way...!' With a voice to rival any of the classic divas and effortless, soulful songwriting woven into each wonderfully different song, she’s fast becoming an underground legend before she's even started out.Her debut single 'No More' is catchy and punchy, with just the right mix of soulful vulnerability and aggression.''No More’' came about after another way I'd tried of breaking into the industry failed. 'Another day, another dead end!' I used to say to myself. The song is just about me venting frustration, but at the same time making clear that I'll never give up. I'm not one to sit and stare at a blank piece of paper and the song will just come, but this time it did. I was faced with a clean white sheet and a pen, and I started writing. The first words that came were 'So infuriated', which pretty much summed up how I felt at that moment. The rest just came, and the melody too as I was writing. In half an hour, the song was complete!'She's not your standard 'inspired by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston' type though. Laura grew up with a huge variety of music around her and her influences vary enormously.'I think it's important to be exposed to as many different artists and styles as possible, particularly as an artist myself - otherwise you end up sounding like a tribute act. My music collection is about as wide ranging as it gets, everyone from Billie Holiday to Bon Jovi to Annie Lennox to Bob Marley to Imagination to the Carpenters! I like to mix it up and shuffle between everyone when I listen though - I never like music to be predictable or sound the same all the time.'This may account for her striking and distinctive voice - she doesn't try to sound like anyone else or compete with any other song. The Public Record LabelI’m going to record and release an album, and I want you to be a part of it.I’m offering shares in this project, so that fans who want to be a part of the creation of the album can invest in it, be down with it from the start and hopefully get a huge return on their investment if it hits big!!Here’s how it will work:Shares in this project will be priced at £5.00 each. Each share will give you: 1. A digital copy of the completed album (with exclusive bonus tracks) 2. One ticket to the official album release party Exclusive input into the project (ideas and song styles, which tracks make the cut on the album, songs to be released as singles etc) 4. A percentage of the profits from the sale of each album and merchandise. Investors money will go towards costs such as: - Recording - Promo photos - Touring/promotion - Video for the single You can buy multiple shares to own a larger portion of the project. This is not a donation. Some independent artists offer fans the opportunity to ‘donate’ towards recording/touring/etc costs, but I am not. This is a unique opportunity to invest and be a part of the creation, release, and success of an album. For my part, I will devote all my time, energy, creativity and passion to this project to make it work, but to help get a bigger return on your investment, there’s plenty you can do too. This could be as simple as making people you know aware of the album, or could be as big organising a venue for a tour date, or even better, contacting your local press and making them aware of the project. Be creative! The more you help to make this grow, the bigger the return will be on your investment.Want more info? Please click here . Click here to add me to your top friends!
