About Me

I was born in Normandy, France. I have two brothers an sister who are also devoted to painting and sculpture. I began painting in 1902, and in 1904 I joined my older brothers in Paris to continue in my work. I was experimenting with Fauvism, Cubism… I decided to make New York my home and drawn into the Dada movement. I effortlessly became its leader in New York. It was at that time that I decided not to paint any more. From then on I produced and exhibited commonplace objects as art. I called these works "readymades." They were chosen for their complete absence of aesthetic qualities, placed so that their usual significance disappeared under the new title and point of view and thought for that object. Many have copied this since. I particully enjoy a lad by Jasper.. er that fellow with the targets, faces, and the witty abstracted numbers. Starting in 1923, I devoted my attention to playing chess. Kinetic art had become too silly and easy for me despite my pervasive influence that became crucial to the development of Surrealism, Dada, and Pop Art. I died in Paris on October 1, 1968 yet I am so intelligent that I have found a way to communicate from the grave via myspace.com. I now devote my time to the internet and have given up chess. The game had become silly to me once I started playing against Princess Di (lovely but troubled girl) and Mao.

My Interests

The chess pieces are the block alphabet which shapes thoughts; and these thoughts, although making a visual design on the chess-board, express their beauty abstractly, like a poem... I have come to the personal conclusion that while all artists are not chess players, all chess players are artists. I am still a victim of chess. It has all the beauty of art - and much more. It cannot be commercialized. Chess is much purer than art in its social position. I've decided that art is a habit-forming drug. That's all it is, for the artist, for the collector, for anybody connected with it. I was interested in ideas, not in visual products. I wanted to put painting again in the service of the mind.

I'd like to meet:
