my art is forged out of music, desire, laughter and tears

About Me

I’m an artist. My first love is design...formed through drawing, pixels and painting. As far back as I can remember, I wanted to be and always thought of myself as an artist. I'm trained in both Fine Arts and Graphics. I consider myself as a jack-of-trades. Although, given my background in art training, I enjoy art that comes from the heart freely...without conditions. As much as I appreciate and learn from the Art Masters...I seem to favor a love for the innocent expression of art and design...found often in kid's art or in the constructs of Folk Art. So many times I find myself wanting to journey through the eyes of a child...wanting to splash the canvas with uninhibited spontaneity. I especially like art in the early beginning stages...the creation moment if you will. I learn more about the artist upon study of their sketches than I do examining their finished works.Of my Fine Arts, I have two leading styles that have emerged over the years. One is my realism, mostly Photorealism, which is an objective style and manner of art...a disciplined study and imitation of life and photography. Naturally, I use my real signature and real name to accompany my realism art. The other style is a little harder to define, call it a hybrid between Pop and Folk Art. I call it Mot Art. By name, Mot is simply the mirror of Tom backwards. In art, Mot is about imagination and fantasy...like the adventures of Alice in Wonderland -Through the Looking Glass. The Mot style graphically represents my subjective inner voice...a diametrical opposite from my realism. Mot Art is my primary art focus and mission right now. The signature of mot may be a pseudonym by definition, but it’s very much about me...liken the child in me punching and screaming to communicate. Although I’m committed to the mot series, the two styles battle for my attention. Most studies of realism that I generate today are through commissions. I hope by promoting and finding success with the Mot Art, it will empower me or free me to do whatever the choosing. Often choices are guided and made based upon the relationship I have with people and the responsive critique and feedback they give me. Trust me there is a lot of Mot in me that has yet to see daylight...yet the desire to return to my realism keeps building. Perhaps a merger is in the works. ...Surreal-Mot!As a Graphic Artist, I grew up around the publication world. My father was a printer who introduced me to many people and artist in the graphics field. At the time, I liked the idea of being a graphic artist, but would shy away from it as a career choice because of its mechanical nature and dependency on tools, equipment and other people. However, In the age of the computer, everything changed. Desktop publishing was not only clean and inviting, but very forgiving. The freedom to design took greater flight. Today, a Graphic artist can take an idea and develop it into a finished product in one sitting. Yes, I enjoy graphics today. In this field I get to design and fashion many things outside my Fine Art...i.e., logos, album covers, clothing labels, billboards, posters...whatever needs to be printed, published or tattooed:) And within this field spawns ideas for animation and 3D art. No telling what is to come:)I also love photography. I never billed myself as a photographer. I started using the camera for the sole purpose of recording and filing images for visual reference. I like to photograph skies, plants, textures, shapes, colors, spaces, faces, animals, whatever...all to help later compose and construct ideas for paintings, drawings and graphics. On occasion, I will sometimes capture a great photograph...one that merits favor as a stand-alone image.Adding to my endeavors in photography, I can apply my Fine Art skills of Photorealism and my Graphic Arts experience of managing and editing images with computer software. Photo retouch and photo composites become a playground for me in a two dimensional world. As a person, I'm predominately happy, sometimes moody…always dreaming and hoping for good to happen. I believe God gave me a wonderful talent and imagination to visualize and design things. Consequently, I'm mission minded about ways and methods of sharing and promoting my art. I'm interested in meeting people, especially those who contribute with like vision...who delight exploring imagery presented in today's culture, and the challenges that confront faith and purpose.I hope the success of Mot Art will enable me to fund and help energize other artist and students of art. I certainly know of many artists besides myself who can benefit from some assistance, if nothing more, a little encouragement. I know a good word can go a long way:) So as you journey through my profile, I hope you will appreciate my art and accept me as a work in progress. Art is my voice...a message of light hidden. May God bless you and those who find it.I welcome your comments:) t o m (a.k.a.) m o tbody {cursor: url bodyLayout Provided By FreeCodeSource.com - Myspace Layouts ..
