I started playing guitar around 1980. I found that I was more interested in playing bass and got my first bass in 1983. I began to develop an improvisational, chordal and contrapuntal style that continues to be a major part of my music. In 1989, I picked up a five-string bass and quickly saw the possibilities of having additional range. In 1991, I got my first six-string which was my primary instrument for 10 years until I ordered a custom 7-string bass from Hanewinckel Guitars in 2001. I am now exploring the 9-string bass which I may start using as my primary band instrument.I have been studying the music of J.S. Bach since the early 1990's and am currently working on arrangements of the six Solo Cello Suites and the six Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin. I've performed a couple of these works live at Solo Bass Night I and II.I play in the band (unpronounceable) with Kelly Back on guitar and Jan Jackson on drums. We play instrumental music that is based on many diverse styles.
