YES YOUR BOY DOES HAVE A SPIRITUAL SIDE GOOD VS EVIL ..
(The Biography Of A Legend)In the late 70's hip-hop was is in its infant stages. Disco, Classic Soul and Funk were reigning supreme in the music world. This error of music would be the building blocks for one of today's most innovative producers. Keman Bell, better known as the Beatsmith or Theory to his wide range of musical fans and followers has learned to fuse the sounds of classic music with today's hip-hop genre. His signature style has been compared to great producers such as Kanye West and Timberland. As a youngster he would listen to his mother play tunes by Lionel Richie, Rick James, and Billy Holiday. These artists would later become the pioneers Theory would follow as he reinvents the sounds of popular music as we know it today.Bell's father was a DJ in the late 70's and 80's spinning records by such legends as Africa Bombada and The Sugar Hill Gang. Not even recognizing what was happening, Theory began absorbing the key elements of such musical masterpieces that he would later revert to in his own quest for production supremacy. His intuition began to kick in around his younger teen years when he received his first hand-me-down turntable and mixer. He practiced for hours in order to replicate the sounds of DMC and DJ Kid Capri. As he became more fluent in his turntable wizardry he wanted not only to spin records, but produce some of his own. He bought his first 4 track mixer with the money he had saved up during his summer of odd ended jobs. He quickly breezed through the manual and began sampling records and adding elements of his own. Within no time he was creating intricate pieces of music that every MC in the vacinity would want to emboss their lyrics on. One of the lyricists would turn out to be a key element in Theory's musical travels. His name was "Kid Swing", and thus our story begins. As the Hip-Hop explosion began in the early 90's, the Beatsmith was well on his way to putting a musical dent on the industry. He was working as a part time DJ hosting parties at the local YMCA. He worked his way alongside some of the local legends in an attempt at securing a spot in a well known club known as the Caribbean dugout. At the time such acts as Slick Rick and Dougie Fresh were performing at this local cabaret. On his spare time he was also banging away at his new MPC and making beats for his new friend and lifelong business associate "Kid Swing". He was also working alongside other beat maestro's such as Mark Amir (Producer) and James Watts (Producer and MC). In his rap travels theory formed a group with "Kid Swing" (Later he dropped the "Kid" and just went with "Swing") entitled P.H.D. Poor Hungry Dirty became the blueprint for every local group in the 90's. They were one of the first unsigned groups to be showcased on mix tapes, college radio, and video's.With 15 years of expertise under his belt theory is fluent in but not limited to;AKAI MPC 2000
