About Me

My name is Julie and I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, moved to New York City at 22 years old, then moved to Philadelphia, PA, then Nashville, TN and now live in Phoenix, AZ. I worked in the music biz for years and have ridiculous stories from witnessing Huey Lewis picking his nose back stage to living in Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood - literally. I have worked at a major concert promotion company in Pittsburgh, the world’s largest entertainment law firm in New York City (where I got to work on major industry deals like the Madonna/Time Warner Maverick Records deal and the Michael Jackson/Sony Music joint venture that involved Beatles publishing rights - I got to learn A LOT), a PolyGram distributed label in Philly (that was a really a front for the mob), and an EMI owned record label division in Nashville - EMICMG. After I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2002 I moved to Phoenix from Nashville in 2004 (hot, dry weather makes me feel much better than the humid, wet weather in Nashville). And I feel so much better in the desert, that I was able to skate with the AZ Derby Dames all girl roller derby league for a couple seasons. My skate name is Vintage Vixen & now I use all my work experience to help run the business & marketing of the Arizona Derby Dames along with a lot of other smart ladies.
Here is my "derby"l bio:
Vintage Vixen's vamped up Vargas vision was validated from her humble beginnings when she was born to this world in grand fashion in a circular red velvet booth between the Rat Pack's matinee and dinner shows at the old Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, being christened later that night onstage by her 5 new "uncles" with a bottle of champagne All grown up now, Vintage Vixen has juggled most of her adult life between playing domestic diva and diving into the bottom of a martini glass. She is Donna Reed by day, Ava Gardner by night and Bettie Page ..real late at night... Vixen has a penchant for buggery, a kicky sense of humor and lives for the ultra lounge life, subtle trashiness and B-Movies. Her home life is a recreation of a hip, swanky, retro, martini lounge look of a fine NYC supper club. Her walls covered with deluxe, stylish pop art prints by Shag and Warhol, her windows and furniture adorned with the finest plush and lavish fabrics, this Vixen has an eye for decor. Ever the entertainer, her swinging suburbia soirees and wild girl poker nights always have the flair of a socialite gone naughty. And when the party is all over a nightcap with her man always sets the mood for after hours fun. Her favorite color is faux leopard fur, she is always on "the list" and her favorite word is "yes". What a vixen!

My Interests

Interests are Retro 40's/50's/60's culture, kitsch, drag queens and drag shows, decorating my home in a retro/martini lounge/club look (I swear my house looks like a kitschy Vegas nightclub), the artists Shag, Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali & Dr. Seuss, Vegas lounge culture, sick trashiness with a sense of humor a la John Waters, retro B-movies, happy hour & nightcaps at home like they used to do in the movies, wild girl poker parties, 60s style swanky & swingin' suburbia cocktail parties for friends. Also, I have a phobia - I am terrified of butterflies.
