Gig promoters! Stop putting 2 good gigs on the same night in the same city, it's REALLY annoying!

About Me

Not a lot to tell!
Reluctant grown-up (43), born in Liverpool, season ticket holder at LFC, and also into what they now term 'classic rock' - and consequently I spend a frightening amount of dosh on rock gigs... !
I drive a lot so seldom get the chance to have a drink, however when given the opportunity I do like to imbibe the local beer - far better than your Budweisers and your Carlings!

Please drop me a message if you would like to add... makes things much easier - thanks!

Lancashire Hotpots - Keys Wallet Phone (New!!)

My Interests

Photography (I have FAR too much camera gear, got a few 35mm SLRs, half-frame, a 120 roll film monster a.k.a The Brute, oh - and the odd digital marvel!), cult television, most sports (as a spectator I hasten to add! LFC season ticket holder, for my sins), and going to gigs, especially going to gigs... !!

Music:

..

Considered myself a 'metalhead' for many years, but am beginning to feel like Abe Simpson when he said 'they changed what 'it' is' !! Huge fan of the following bands: Deep Purple, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Dio, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Thunder, AC/DC, Queen, you get the idea!! One of the best newish bands around is The Answer , these guys have the right attitude!
Recently got into Sonata Arctica , Power Metal from Finland who sound like a blend of early Queen and classic Rainbow!

Favourite guitarists: Ritchie Blackmore - despite the current direction - John Sykes, Brian May, Angus Young, Billy Gibbons, Paul Kossoff, Gary Moore, and last but not least Doug Aldrich (great guy BTW). Basically anyone who knows their way round a fretboard has my respect (esp now I'm having a go myself!)

Singers: Ronnie James Dio, Paul Rodgers, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Freddie Mercury, Danny Bowes are most often listened to in my car !

Contrary to popular belief I will listen to other forms of music, however I cannot abide the stuff churned out on MTV these days, rap, RnB, whatever its called I don't like it!! (Old style Rhythm 'n' Blues, yes, this current so-called 'RnB' - NO!!)And as for dance...!!!

In my opinion nothing beats a good live band on a stage, therefore I will rarely be found in clubs with fancy lights and a 'superstar' DJ where they churn out 'whumpa-whumpa' beats all night... I might live in the home of 'cream' but the whole scene passed me by, happy to say!!

As long as I am physically and financially able, I intend to keep on going to gigs!

Movies:

Not a big film fan, but if pushed I would put 'The Empire Strikes Back' at the top of my list (I REFUSE to call it 'Star Wars Episode V'!!) Will probably get 'Wallace and Gromit Curse of the Were-rabbit' next, I'm a big fan of those two. The few DVDs I have are sci-fi stuff like 'The Matrix' or animated things like 'Shrek' or 'Toy Story'.

Television:

Those who know me, know me to be a cult television geek!! HUGE fan of 'The Prisoner', also 'The Avengers', 'UFO', basically anything that comes from the 60s/70s golden era of British TV (the ITC days) I will probably like it. Was into the X-Files and the various Star Trek series during the 1990s, but IMO the best show from that era was a little-remembered American show: 'Nowhere Man'. I won't go into the premise here other than to say it is about a guy who finds his life erased by a mysterious organisation, but you can find out more at this excellent site
While I'm plugging TV fan sites, here is mine! The Penny Farthing Prisoner Fan site

Books:

No longer holding up tables; I've been reading Rudy Sarzo's autobiography 'Off The Rails' which details his time with Ozzy, and 'BANG! the Complete History Of The Universe', which was co-produced by Brian May, Sir Patrick Moore and Chris Lintott.

Caught Live: It Bites, Pacific Road Arts Centre Birkenhead 30/09/08

I'll admit from the start that what I know about this band is next to nothing!Oh, I know they had a hit single in the 80s, a critically-acclaimed album a few years later, and that their lead singer/gu...

Album Review: QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS The Cosmos Rocks (Parlophone)

I never thought I'd be sitting down to review a new album by Queen, almost two decades after the death of their talismanic singer, Freddie Mercury. Having listened to this album now, the new offering ...

Caught Live: Duff McKagans Loaded - Carling Academy Liverpool 15 September 2008

It's not every day you get a genuine rock 'n' roll icon play a small venue in your home city, although the star of the show tonight surprised me, when emerging onto the stage in 'nerd specs'! Given th...

Yet more Whitesnake/Leppard (and Thunder!!) - this time in Liverpool!

When they started construction on what is now the Echo Arena down by the King's Dock in Liverpool, this was exactly the sort of concert I was hoping to see there. I followed the building work with gre...
