About Me
Kurry Seymour, Director of Percussion Studies at Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach SC, holds the BM and MM in Percussion Performance from West Virginia University.At CCU, Kurry instructs the percussion studio and ensembles which include; The CCU Steel Band, Taiko ensemble, African Drum and Dance ensemble, Brazilian ensemble, Global Rhythms ensemble, and Percussion ensemble. In addition to the studio ensembles, Kurry instructs the percussion methods class and the Spirit of the Chanticleer percussion section percussion ensemble. He is the founder of the CATALYST Percussion Group (C.P.G.) and has been an instructor with the Carolina Crown drum and bugle corps and a member of the Crossmen drum and bugle corps. Ensembles under his direction have performed at the Virginia Beach Festival of Music, Clemson University, and Ohio University. He has performed at PASIC, MENC, and was a guest clinician and host for the South Carolina PAS (Day of Percussion).Kurry has had the wonderful chance to share the stage with outstanding artists such as Steve Bailey, Victor Wooten, Andy Narell, Jeff Narell, Dr. Paschal Younge, Tom Miller, Ellie Mannette, Bobby Thomas, and Robert Greenidge.His principal teachers include She-e Wu, Dr. Ellie Mannette, Dr. Tim Peterman, Dr. Paschal Younge and John Rozum. Additional study has been with Tim Adams, Paul Rennick, and Mark Thurston.Kurry Seymour is the current President for the South Carolina Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and is an educational endorser for Vic Firth, Mannette Steel Drums, Meinl Percussion, Remo,Zildjian Cymbals, and a Dynasty Percussion Artist.
