As a percussion major attending West Virginia University in the early 90's I became an apprentice under the steel drum legend Ellie Mannette, an artist in residence at WVU just retiring from his position in 2008. I started working for Ellie's venture with the University known as the University Tuning Project in 1995. The perfect job for a college student, allowing me to drop in between classes performing miscellaneous odd jobs while learning to sink and shape all the voices of the steel band. After finishing with school in 1997 I began working full time for UTP, which later moved out of the Creative Arts Center and changed its name to Mannette Steel Drums. I'm currently making the transition from working exclusively for Mannette Steel Drums to working freelance, still providing work for MSD and anyone else interested in my services. It will be a year or more before I officially take orders. For the time being I plan on doing some research and development, a lot of tuning on the road, and making pans for my my closest friends that have been waiting a long time for me to make good on some promises.
