On a warm and starry night, sometime in the mid 90’s, a bonfire roars in Towamencin, Pennsylvania. Mixing with the sour wood smoke are tunes plucked acoustic and rhythmic and full of missed notes that don’t matter. Good friend’s party and laugh in a circle around the pit. The band is part of the audience and the audience is part of the band; they drum on their knees and stomp their feet and sing along with the parts they know. The music is the backdrop for all the good times that will be remembered. As the night winds down, all that’s left of the fire is glowing embers. People are lying in their sleeping bags or are slumped in chairs glassy eyed, but the music continues soft and dreamy. This night, or a night just the same, is when the seed of Painted Blue begins to sprout.
After nearly a decade, Painted Blue has grown into a hardy tree and they shake their leaves loose, as favorites, at numerous venues, including festivals, around the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware area. They have written and recorded 12 original works for their debut album “Time Rolls On†that weaves front porch pickin’, jam sessions, and ragtime blues into a blanket that shields you from the cold winds of mainstream music. Their songs feel comfortable, and, if you were to close your eyes, you might find yourself surrounded by friends, your skin warm from the fire, tapping your foot to the catching homegrown tunes.
