Who's behind the show?
Marc Smith has hosted The Dead & Phriends since 2005, when he was brought onto the on-air team from former host Pat McClure. Most people recognize Marc by his unique laugh...Valentine's Day dinner at The Ivy Inn was once interrupted by someone at another table coming over to ask if he was "the guy" from The Dead show! Marc's a diehard fan of Phish, Aquarium Rescue Unit, Umphreys McGee, Les Claypool, Buckethead, and the Charlottesville music scene.
Jeannine got involved in the fall of 2005, soon after she moved to Charlottesville from Boston. A devoted trader of live music, Jeannine jokingly gave herself the title "Director of New Music Procurement". Marc calls her the producer. Her duties range from programing to publicity to going on snack runs during the show. Jeannine's favorite bands include Widespread Panic, Dumpstaphunk, Galactic, Garage a Trois, Phish, DMB, and Benevento Russo Duo.
Obviously, we both love the Grateful Dead, too!
