All of my friends came to see me last night...

About Me

At the heart of Cynical Anthropologist is Lorraine and Lisa - two NY transplants making their way into the Pittsburgh spotlight, poised to uleash their musical calaboration on an unsuspecting city.
Lorraine grew up in the NYC suburbs of NJ, a place that will teach you the TRUE meaning of the blues. She lists music as the only constant in her life, her first and closest friend, her fiercest foe. Lorraine is classically trained in voice and spent many years doing choirs and musicals. Her first band experience was a bluegrass band, The Two Joel String Band and for a couple of years, Lorraine fronted a successful cover band in upstate NY, Pulled Pork.
Lisa Sea is much cooler than Lorraine, as she was actually born and raised in NYC. Don't mess with her! Staten Island makes the NJ suburbs look like summer camp. Lisa is a lifelong guitar player, master of impersonations and fellow anthropologist with a wit that won't quit! ~*Disclaimer*~: Lisa is not a hippie, nor does she pretend to be one.
They balance each other out well ;)
This past gig was a learning experience - we need more musicians!!!

Band Website: Look no further, you found it!
Band Members: * Lorraine Sturhann - vocals & bass *

That's all there is right now...
There is a rumor going around that we hooked up with a drummer - it's all true! We're very excited about our new venture and can't wait to start jamming :)
Influences: Lorraine been influenced by all forms of music. Growing up listening to the family's music - Dad listened to 50's car songs, oldies and country while Mom listened to folk, traditional folk, broadway and classical music. Grandpa listened to symphonic classical, big band & played flamenco guitar. Grandma listened to broadway soundtracks and the Rat Pack, with a special affinity for Frank Sinatra.
Growing up in the 80's, there were few real rock n roll artists out, so Lorrraine traveled to the past for music. Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Doors etc. Then in 1986, she discovered the Dead - that changed everything. It wasn't just a combination of varied musical styles, but it was a lifestyle and a community. And drugs, there were lots of drugs ;)
Lisa has listed the following influnces that made her want to play guitar: Brian Setzer, Melissa Etheridge (as cliche as that is), Joel Murray, Grand Funk Railroad, Marshall Tucker Band, The Beatles, Rare Earth, CCR, Richie Havens, CSNY, Joan Jett, The Band, Dylan, Mamas & Papas, Grateful Dead, Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem and Slayer.
Lisa's musical influences stem from the sounds of the 50s and 60s thanks to her father, also a guitar player. She loves the groovy sounds of Sly & The Family Stone, Rare Earth and Grand Funk Railroad. Her prefered genres are Bluegrass, Hip/Trip-Hop, Death Metal, 80s, Punk, Reggae, Techno, Rockabilly, Blues, Showtunes, Classic Rock, Opera, Lounge and Classical. You can bet a shiny nickel that you'll find Rob Zombie, Brian Setzer, Janis, Jimi, The Beatles, No Doubt, Indigo Girls, Grateful Dead, an odd Disney ditty or two, Spice Girls or Rosemary Clooney on her iPod.
Sounds Like: Janis Joplin, Patsy Cline, Big Mama Thorton, Lou Ann Barton, Joan Jett, Alison Moyet
