Torture for Purists

Mmm,... that's good Torture! T.U.

About Me

Torture for Purists is Joe Gillis and occasional guests willing to be called this. I am from Piqua, Ohio and I'm an anthropology grad studying the Humanities at Wright State University. Main musical influences, recognizable or not, include Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia, Lou Reed, John Lennon, Randy Newman, Tom Waits, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Peter Tosh, John Prine, Neil Young, Guided By Voices and many others. I also love old skool rap, old skool punk and those sweet hippie sixties songs. Currently I am listening to Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart on vinyl. I play percussion instruments, guitar, bass, and provide the vocals for Torture for Purists. This Torture for Purists effort is single-take, undubbed, and barely rehearsed, with effects and EQ added in post production. Torture for Purists has been signed to Burned Records, Ohio, a label run by Torture for Purists' frontman Joe Gillis. You also may notice Mannington Mine, which is a song written by Hazel Dickens. I also get to play with my friends in Ohio Pie Factory, which is an amazing band that specializes in original material with covers speckled about as heavily as blue spots on a robin's egg. Check OPF out at www.myspace.com/ohioppiefactory. Please Enjoy! Love, j ================================================= Upcoming Shows: ~~~~Ohio Pie Factory with Hotel War and Goose (go see goose) at The Walnut Hills on May 31st~~~~check their myspaces below

Drivin' without brakes 2.1

This blog series began with the idea of brakes grinding as we brake for whatever reason.  The idea was that the brakes only grind until enough pad is worn away to expand the cylinder to the point...
