About Me
Born July 5, 1983 in Austin, Texas, Dominic showed signs of his affinity for being center stage early in life. Even before then, he had the ability to capture the hearts of his audience. On a whim, his mom entered him into a baby beauty pageant in Austin, Texas. At eleven months old, he took home first prize for the “most beautiful baby†category. Dominic sang his first pop song--a hit by George Michaels when he was three years old. He received a toy piano, and it became obvious that he loved music.
In 1989, five-year old Dominic was featured in the local Manassas newspaper, the Journal Messenger, for his involvement in a spring musical concert. Dominic continued to actively participate in chorus throughout his elementary, middle and high school years. His instrumental experience includes the violin, piano, keyboard, and clarinet. Some of his more notable musical performances include: music award for Master Musician in 1995; frequent soloist and group performances with the Fairfax High School chorus and a cappella singers; Washington Performing Arts Society Children of the Gospel Mass Choir at the Kennedy Center 1998 and 1999; Fairfax High School district and all-state competitions—won Outstanding Soloist senior year; and vocal performances at community and church events. Dominic also joined gospel group New Element in 1999 and performed at youth events in the northern Virginia area.
Following his graduation from Fairfax High School, Dominic attended Virginia State University and completed his undergrad studies with a bachelors of arts in 2005. Although he chose not to major in vocal performance he still took full advantage of any opportunity to perform. He made appearances at weddings, military dining outs, student social activities, sporting events, and even guest appeared on the third season of BET’s College Hill. This serenade gained him national exposure when it aired in March 2006.
In the year 2007, Dominic took on the name D. Carter of Sikmind, and has been grinding ever since. Under independent label Sikmind Muzik Inc., he and two talented Producer/Emcee’s (Jerome Cruz and Nick Tydingko), released the all original 16 track hip hop album titled, “Verbal Abuseâ€. With witty lyrics, catchy hooks, and incredible swag, it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser. Dominic wrote most of the hooks for the album, created the club banger known as Trendsetta, and has also produced other tracks to include: True Love, Time Lost, and We Stay Poppin’. Be on the look out for Dominic Carter’s solo project!
