B.A.S.E: It’s hard to imagine a rapper more confident of succeeding than B.A.S.E (Base).
Having started rapping at the age of 13, the road to success has not been an easy one (and for all intents & purposes has still not been traveled in its entirety).
By his own admissions Base was not always committed to his music as an art, instead seeing it as an easy way to fast track fame & fortune. While purchasing other artists’ music, Base would frequently buy singles and use the instrumentals (usually attached) to write his own songs.
Base’s attitude towards his music started to change in the year 2003 when he started noticing ‘friends’ who also had ambitions of ‘making it’ within music start to act differently around him. At this point Base realized that no-one but himself would get him to where he wanted to go. This also changed the way in which Base wrote new material.
Base not only has ‘industry’ experience when it comes to his music but also a high level of respect and admiration for the art of Hip-Hop. Base thrives on competition and has no reservations about entering into it. From the schoolyard to the block to the staged events, Base was forever ready to enter into battle and test his lyrical and creative skills against any opponent put in front of him. Base has since though decided to focus totally on creating good music instead of breaking down other artists and so does not easily end up in battle mode anymore.
Base has a confidence not normally seen in new artists. No matter how hostile or unresponsive the crowd, Base does not shy away and still gives his all while performing, doing his best to engage the audience (usually to positive effect).
Base has appeared at numerous events over the years since 2003. The most notable ones being ‘Wha Gwarn Extravaganza’ at Tudor Rose where the likes of Nathan, Fundamental 03 & Bashy performed... And The ‘Wifey Launch Party’ at Central Pier which Tinie Tempah put together to celebrate the underground success of his ‘Wifey Riddim’ adaptation, this also saw the likes of K-Sounds, Splurge & Sadie Ama perform.
Base has also been approached numerous times to be apart of the Alizay.CO.UK events and tours that take place all over the country.
In 2007 Base became a quarter-finalist in a competition called ‘Project Talent UK’. Out of thousands of entrants Base was one of the chosen few that made it to one of the three Heats of the competition (the London Heats).
Though not given a fair shot at making it through to the semi-finals, Base took the disappointment of not progressing in his stride and continues to make movements toward his musical aspirations.
So far Base has released three promos to the public
‘Yu Dnt Kno ME!’,
‘Secret’s Out!’
‘Itz Ya BOYAN!...’
(Released in 04, 05 & 06 respectively).
Base is currently working on his new material which will be promoted and released in 2008.
Base has collaborated with such producers as
Nutty P (Baby Blue, Nathan, Pyrelli, Sway & Swiss)
Sem of Beat Peddlers (Crazy Titch, Doctor, Plan B & Professor Green)
Mizz Beats (Dizzee Rascal, Jammer, Lady Sovereign & Suga Babes)..This profile was edited with Thomas' myspace editor™ V2.5a href=
