Balmy as a summer's evening, all-round acquired good taste, Papa's In Love, are a lush tropical oasis in an arid aural soundscape. Replete with sultry dancing maidens proffering exquisite melodic delicacies, Papa's refresh and tantalise even the most tune-weary musical wayfarer.
Their sound is an eclectic cocktail of the meaty, beaty & just plain sweet. They dabble in a bit of everything to create a musical montage which is enigmatic and fragile yet unpredictable and satisfyingly explosive in equal measure.
Papa's love nothing more than playing out live and 2005 saw them leaving the 'burbs' to venture further afield for gigs, interspersed with London shows at The Spice Of Life, Globe Theatre @ The Bedford, and Bush Hall - to name but a few.
Having launched their first independent release, 'The Feathers EP', with a headline show at London’s Bush Hall, Papa's were approached by set designer Judith Fischer and filmmaker Phillip Clyde-Smith (armed with an international crew of fifteen), to film one of their standout songs 'Half My Soul' for use as a promotional video.
Their well received debut, '...And Mama Don't Like What She's Seeing' followed in 2006, accompanied by another short film/video produced by Phil capturing the band at work underneath the arches, in Holloway Road’s Oilville studios. An exciting succession of live dates followed throughout the year and the band continued to introduce a varied range of influences and styles to the musical boiling pot, further honing their stage show and unique presence.
With the concept still fresh at the dawn of 2007, Papa's were booked to perform ‘a unique show in a virtual world’ at the Bedford Theatre in Balham. The event was staged in front of a live audience, webcasted and simultaneously beamed to a worldwide virtual audience in Second Life. This was Papa's first foray into the world of virtual gigs and won them a host of new friends internationally, to add to their rapidly expanding fanbase.
Papa’s are currently limbering up for the next phase, debuting a host of new material and styles for their forthcoming album 2: they've unleashed a raw and tribal magic in the rhythm 'Brothers Marvell', dropped in some Tenor Saxophone and Slide Guitars for good measure, and topped it all off with an extraordinary five vocal a cappella drum-led showstopper. Catch the next show for latest developments……
