About Me

An automatic door in Iceland closed on me while I was having a conversation about being awkward.

My Interests

rain, people who use umbrellas to shield against sun and snow but not rain, the people who write sample sentences given when you look up a word ("the laconic reply suggested a lack of interest in the topic"), driving barefoot and other mildly illegal things.

I'd like to meet:

More situations in which I can run my hand through tall grasses. A child to tell me which trees are calling out for me to sit in them since I have grown too old to know myself. A diploma; then, a job. My dignity back.

Music:

French pop folk indie rock, exclusively. Hungarian drinking songs.

Movies:

The part in Titanic when the ship sinks

Television:

To watch television at our apartment, you must recalibrate your notion of color. Reds are yellow. Blues are green. If I weren't so afraid of cables and electricity (danger!), I might be able to fix this.

Books:

Good ones, short ones, long ones, short stories, really short stories, like two paragraph stories, novellas, poetry, your blog, your friends' blogs, the descriptions you write under the photos you post on your myspace ("this is me in another large vase"), books about cartography, books about travel, books about neither cartography nor travel. Amy Hempel.

Heroes:

My mom and sister. Zossima accused of doctrinal error. Good palavers.

My Blog

Clowns in a Car

Today, while leaving Ann Arbor, I was stopped at a light. I looked over to see, in the lane next to me, a car full of clowns. (The car was not -- and I can't decide if this adds to or detracts from th...
