For the past 6 years, rapper/producer Influence has had one goal: To make music people enjoy. By the response he's received from fans, he seems to be doing just that.
Influence was born on October 28th 1983 in Evanston, Illinois. He later moved to the outer Chicago region of Vernon Hills where he spent the majority of his childhood. Like many mc's Influence started out in rap by battling. Gaining small victories at local area battles as well as a second place finish at Survival of the Illest rap battle at Southern Illinois University, Influence has been able to expand on the typical punch line rap and appeal to fans outside the hip hop community.
While currently working on his next album (untitled at press time), Influence has been taking advantage of every performance opportunity he can get his hands on. He's gone from doing high School Talent shows to opening for acts from Chicago underground labels Galapagos 4 and Gravel Records. Also headlining shows at Chicagos Bar Vertigo and completing a successful month long mini tour, Influence understands that exposing himself to one market limits his ability to reach out to non hip hop fans. Thats why hes played shows at breakers billiards and Lenney the Legend's in the suburbs of Schaumburg and McHenry reaching out to people in the outer regions of Chicago and the midwest.
Aside from live shows, Influence has found a way to connect with those outside the rap world. He makes songs anyone can relate to. From his battles with drug addiction, and struggling to feel excepted, Influence has a lot of stories to tell that strike a chord with the listener without being whiny or overdramatic. In-addition, Influence brings a different perspective to the oversaturated underground hip hop scene and is not afraid to open up and put his actual life and daily experiences into his songs which is uncharacteristic in hip hop today.
With solid Performances under his belt, a CD/DVD in the works Influence is well on his way to solidifying a position in Chicago hip-hop. But Chicago is only the beginning. Influence has recently relocated to Berkeley, California and has signed with Grow records. Through Grow Influence plans to perform not only in the bay and Chicago but eventually expand across the country.
